So I think many of you know that my LA Masters experience didn’t go the way I planned. Sadly, on the first day of competition my 1.30 mare became very ill and had to be sent home. She is thankfully recovering now.
But one of the coolest things that happened while I was at the Masters was being added as the second rider for the Gucci team with Edwina Tops Alexander in the Charity Pro/Am class. OK reality and dreams colliding right here because Edwina is one of my favorite lady riders on the international circuit and of course who doesn’t love Gucci!
We rode for Princess Caroline of Monaco’s Amade Mondiale. Our theme was Bohemian Rhapsody to go in line with the bohemian feel of the recent Gucci collections. And yes, those are real, fresh flowers on our helmets. Surprisingly heavy. Oh sure, I just walked the course with Edwina like no big deal while the coach of the U.S. Equestrian team is walking the course with his wife Wonder Woman. Surreal. I rode a horse that I had not ridden before who had not been jumping a 1.20 in front of a packed house. I kept asking my trainer, “Are you sure? Are you sure?” And he kept saying “Yes of course!”. You know those times when you pray you can deliver under the pressure and not embarrass yourself or anyone else? This was it! Edwina was so friendly and welcoming to me that she put me at ease. It was so much fun and it happened so fast that I didn’t have time to think. We did great.
I’m so grateful to my trainer, the Masters and Edwina for making this happen for me. What a blast!
