Bedtime Story (L x Reader) Fluff
You twirled your hair with your index finger as you stared at the screen in front of you. The laptop you were using warmed your thighs as you sat on the hotel room’s one of two couches. You yawned audibly, eyes watering slightly.
“I’m surprised you’re staying so late tonight.” You looked up to see dark, wide eyes staring in your direction from a chair across from you, past the coffee table. You looked down at the time at the bottom right corner of the computer screen. 3:24.
“Oh wow.” You raised your eyebrows, surprised yourself, ” I honestly didn’t realize.” You took your finger out of your hair, leaving a loose curI behind “I’d call myself to invested, but is that really a bad thing given the situation?”
“I suppose not. Though you need sleep to give your best performance.” You watched the other stack a tenth sugar cube on the tower he made next to his coffee, “And you’re going to be lacking that in the later hour of what I will label tomorrow...which is today.” He continued. You tilted your head, letting out a small laugh.
“Look who’s talking, Ryuzaki. If anyone needs sleep it’s you.” You placed your right hand on your mouse and clicked on one of the various pictures of criminals.”Though I’m assuming that’s not something you do much of, huh?”
He put his thumb up to his lips, eyes focused on the tower, “No it isn’t.” He mumbled before he placed his feet on the floor. He got up from his chair, which surprised you at first. He walked over to you, hands in his pockets. He then sat next to you, pulling his knees to his chest, bare feet tucked up on the couch as well.
He moved some of his disheveled black hair out of his face before looking at you. You swallowed, having trouble looking up at him. You weren’t used to his attention. It was just you and him there, which you hadn’t really taken into account until now. It made your chest tighten.
You were nervous, but not in a bad way. You had accepted that you had feelings for L a long time ago and being so close to him affected you incredibly, especially since this had never happened.
The silence was a little awkward before he reached over to close your laptop, “Wait!” You reached down to stop him, but he was to quick, practically slamming it. You furrowed your brows and shot him a confused look.
“Now why’d you go and do tha-?” You asked. When your eyes met his again you stopped. His stare was nearly to intense, his dark eyes made it even worse. You wondered what was going on in his head just then. You sighed in defeat.
He pulled it away from your lap, mouse hanging from it by it’s wire, “Because I’m the boss.” You watched his hand as he brought it back to his knee, “If I give you orders will you obey?” He asked.
You froze, hesitant to reply “W-well yeah, of course.” You forced yourself to keep eye contact with him as you awaited his ‘order’. He reached over and placed his thumb on the apple of your cheek, “Your eyes are red.” He observed, simply describing what he saw. Your lips parted, flustered to no end.
“I’ve stayed up this late in the past. Is there any reason you’re so concerned, boss?” You said, a little sarcastic. He didn’t remove his thumb, he just continued, “I know the look of someone who’s worked themselves to the bone,(Y/N).” He let his thumb travel down to your jaw before he pulled it away, "You should go home.”
“Hm...” You hummed as if contemplating the idea, which you weren’t. You then had an eureka moment, “How about this. I’ll go home when you finally lay down. Not necessarily sleep, just lay down. Yeah?” You offered, smiling.
“Well, now... I think it’s safe to say it’s time I ask why you’re so concerned..” He replied. It was easy for you to answer, “I care about you-Your well-being.” You cleared your throat.
L shifted his feet and slid himself closer to you. He hummed, finding what you said very curious,”That’s strange.” He simply said, “You care about me?” He put a finger to his lips, “Okay, I’ll do it.”
You clapped your hands together, “That’s great!” You got up excitedly and took the hand that rested on his knee in your own, pulling him up. He stumbled off the couch, following you to the bed.
No one had ever said anything like you had to him. No one ever treated him like this. Gentle and kind, frankly playful. Your grasp on his hand made his pale face turn a light shade of pink.
“There will be one condition.” He spoke as you both stood at the side of the bed. You replied curiously, “And what’d that.”
Hands still clasped together, he brought them both up together, as if to put them on display. He looked back and forth between them and you. You widened your eyes in anticipation.
He leaned in close to you. Your face was burning hot, you were going to lose your cool.
“You have to...” He stopped just inches from your face, his back was hunched as usual, but it helped so that he could meet your eye line, “Read me a bed time story.” He spoke seriously. It caught you off guard.
“A-A bed time story? I don’t know any. Not even one.” You almost felt bad. As silly as this was, it was incredibly cute. Your soft smile just grew as you shook your head.
“Then how am I supposed to sleep?” He wondered aloud, “I don’t have any methods of my own.” He slowly let go of your hand, but didn’t step back from you.
“Well first. sit down okay?” You grabbed him by the shoulders and sat him down. You opened your mouth to speak again, but he interrupted you.
“You are very kind.” And then you finally saw a smile on his face. It made your heart skip a beat. It was a sight to behold.
He took your wrist and pulled you down next to him. As you made contact with the bed you let out a sigh.
“I’m not trying to assume anything, but I’m not going to stay, though again...not trying to assume anything.” Your voice was incredibly nervous. Your eyes weren’t on him, but you felt his on you.
“I was hoping you might. That’s to bad.” Your eyes shot up to meet his.
“Really?” You exclaimed quickly without thinking. You put your hand to your face, embarrassed, “Sorry, I was just surprised.” You let your hands fall to your lap, but you managed to keep you eyes locked on his.
“Yes, I could tell.” He looked away, "I just realized I may have made you fairly uncomfortable.” It was his turn to be embarrassed, “I’m sorry for that,”
“No no!” You put your hand on his back, “I like sitting here with you. I like this.” You assured him, hoping he wouldn’t feel any sort of guilt. You could see he clearly did. You figured he wasn’t used to being so close to someone.
“I really like...you, actually, Ryuzaki.” You spoke again, which earned you a surprised look from the other. You sucked in a breath then, not sure if you regretted saying what you just had.
“Is that so?” He asked. You returned his question with a nod. You were gazing down at the time, but you brought he head back up with his long fingers.
“I never was good at reading women.” He spoke soon after. You let out a laugh, bringing your hand up to grasp his fingers, “I could have guessed that.” You pressed your lips to his fingers then, waiting for his reaction.
He did seem rather surprised at your action, but his lids fell a bit, as if relaxed. Just then, just as he pulled his fingers away, he embraced you. You let out a tiny gasp. This was the last thing you expected. You didn’t say anything.
“I hope you don’t mind.” He spoke softly, arms under yound and wrapped around your back. You quick heartbeat slowled. You hugged him right back, and tightly.
“Not at all.” You let your fingers travel into his hair. You squeezed your eyes shut then, turning your head and placed a kiss on his cheek.
You felt him stiffen. You were going to apologize, but you didn’t. You felt him start to pull away and you did the same. When you could see each other’s faces again, he blinked slowly.
“Are you okay?” You asked him. He looked a little bewildered. but his expression relaxed. He was such an odd guy. You could only wonder about his upbringing. You actually wondered about it a lot.
“Yes.” His face was even more flushed than before. You almost felt proud that you could get this sort of reaction from him. It was surreal to have him like this.
“I was worried there.” You admitted, even though it was obvious based on your expression.
His postured began to change and he began going a bit limp. You steadied him, putting one hand behind his neck and on his back. He was falling back, assuming you would help him do just that.
His head then came to rest on the pillow behind him. You pulled your hands away and slowly got up from the bed. He stretched his legs out and turned on his side, facing you.
“I’ve got you right where I want you.” You said triumphantly, hands on your hips. L brought his slender hands up to his chest, his knees following behind.
“Oh!” You put a finger to your lips before reaching for a blanket that lay neatly on the end of the bed. You quickly covered him. From his neck down You wrapped it snuggly around him.
“I’m sorry, but you kinda look like a baby all curled up like that.” You giggled at that point. His eyes had been closed ever since he laid down, but he opened one to look up at you, “Yes...and I must admit I feel like one.” He let out a tired breath.
“So does this mean you’re leaving?” He opened his other eye as he asked you the question, “Yeah, but you’re aware it won’t be long before I’m back, right?”r
“I am.” He shifted as he began to get comfortable. He took in a sharp breath and closed his eyes. You smiled to yourself as you walked back over to the couch to pick up your things and pack them away in your bag. You let out a huff as you swung it over your shoulder. You gave L another glance before walking over to the door.
“(Y/N),” You heard him call to you quietly, “Next time you’re staying.” He fell silent again. You stopped in place and smiled to yourself. Part of you wanted to stay this time, but you wouldn’t. You moved to grab the doorknob then.
“You got it boss.”
