This was kind of a while ago by now, but when you answered that one ask about 17/18 yo Light if he were in the Yellow Box, you finished with something like "his heart wasn't in it because his father was gone" (paraphrasing ofc). Did you mean he actually missed his dad, or that his father's obsessive commitment to catching Kira made the "game" more fun after L was gone? (part 1)
(part 2) Of course you might have meant something else entirely and I just didn't pick up on it. Personally I don't think he gave a s*** about Soichiro, his interaction with Matsuda in the warehouse is enough to completely convince me of that. But he also didn't think Soichiro was very smart, so it's not like being Kira would be easier and therefore less "fun" after he died (plus, there was also Near). ok now I'm done :)
Oh I disagree with you there entirely - Light’s father is the core of his entire morality and not being able to obtain his approval before his death is THE crushing low point of Light’s entire life.
I have a different read on the finale interaction with Matsuda as well - to me it cements just how much Soichiro meant to Light.
I understand where your read of these lines comes from, but I think that it disregards context from the rest of the manga to look at this and assume it means Light doesn’t care.
What Light is doing here is outlining a good chunk of his motivation to become Kira in the first place - Light idolized his father. It was Light’s life dream to follow in his father’s career footsteps. The one thing he can’t stand to be called is ‘evil’ because his father will never bow to evil. His father’s morality is ingrained in his every thought and he spends a lifetime trying to live up to it.
The fact that Soichiro is so good and admirable and STILL the world doesn’t appreciate him doesn’t make Light dislike his father - it makes him dislike the world. That is why he sees the world as rotten to begin with!
So why does Light refuse to even call him dad here? Because Soichiro’s death crushed him on every level.
In his dying words Soichiro confirms that a) despite literally mock executing Light to prove his innocence he still doubted him and that b) he still has not changed his mind about Kira. Light’s whole idea is that Kira’s actions are wrong NOW, but once the world changes, perception of what wrong even means will change - Light wanted his family to come around. Soichiro’s death takes this away.
Light never acts the same after Soichiro’s death. It makes him colder, more openly cynical, and avoid the people he loves the most (his mom and sister). He emotionally distanced himself from his father to this degree not because he didn’t care but because he cared too much and he’s trying to bury that hurt deep deep down.
In my opinion, Light’s relationship with his father is THE singular most important relationship Light has in all of canon - no other character comes even close to holding a candle to it.
I’ve written about it before here with more evidence from the manga as a whole!
Today’s Terrible Bard Name Suggestion is…
“Bald” Roy Baldroy
“Ok I have one for Baldroy: Bald Roy. His first name is Roy and at one point he was bald so everyone called him "Bald Roy" and it caught on a little too well😂”
Submitted by @eecmidford
(Mod UT: Is this your first submission? Looks like it, so congrats 🎊. Note: his last name will always now be shown as Baldroy here, ever since the licensed English translation given in ch176.)
Watercolor commission I did for @eecmidford. It was definitely a lot of fun doing more intricate costume design and the palette was delightful.

Hi friend! I just got back into BSD and I'm hoping the manga isn't finished for good? I'm on chapter 52 and the website I'm reading it on has it listed as "completed" so I'm a bit worried :/
Hello there! I just looked it up and the manga is still ongoing. It is not completed yet! I recommend checking a different manga source to read it from. Good Luck~
Hi friend! I’m in love with the art you did for Mountain Sound! Your use of color is so magical and otherworldly, and added so much beauty and feeling to an already beautiful story! I’m not an experienced artist at all, so I don’t really have any criticism to give, actually…all I can do is gush about how beautiful it is! Amazing job! <3 <3 <3
Me again! Hi! Looks like you did art for A Lack of Armor too...yay!!! I love the one of Soul and Maka hugging. The lighting is just so beautiful, and I love the detail of the posters in the background, but their facial expressions are the absolute best part of it. Maka’s face is just so full of love, and Soul’s tiny tear, and the way he’s gripping her back, it all just makes me so happy. (to be continued)
I also love the one where they’re at the piano; the angle it’s at, specifically. It just seems like they’re at this giant piano that goes on forever—which makes total sense when you think about how important the music is to Soul. The overall palette is dark, but there’s a little glow on their faces, and it’s just the most beautiful thing. Also, kind of calm-before-the-storm, given what was about to happen at that point in the fic. Well done!
Of course, the other two pictures were beautiful as well—as I mentioned in my review of the fic, I loved the way Soul’s relationship with Wes was portrayed, so the picture of them cutting Soul’s hair really spoke to me. And the portraits of Soul during his transition were also lovely. He looks so much happier and more confident in the last phase, and it’s so great! Anyway, thanks for all the beautiful art you do for the fandom, and good luck in all your future projects!
sdfgh thank you so much you’re so sweet I dont know what to say ;u;
