Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Board Development Director is to help guide and support the diverse collection of Community League Boards throughout Edmonton. There are currently 156 Community Leagues in the City of Edmonton, and each Community League is a non-profit society, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, who look to the EFCL and the Board Development Director for advice, information and support with education, governance and organizational issues.
Key Accountabilities:
· Use your solid nonprofit governance expertise, organizational skills and outgoing personality to support Edmonton’s volunteer based Community League Boards
· Educate, prepare and provide guidance regarding strategic planning
· Coach and participate in effective meetings
· Develop and organize educational and training materials
· Coordinate, develop and provide training sessions
· Obtain and maintain accurate and complete data pertaining to program and resource needs
· Actively and fairly work towards resolution of conflict to restore wholeness
· Provide modeling of mediation in the resolution of conflict
· Confer with external stakeholders and internal stakeholders
· Work alongside the EFCL Board of Directors, assisting in fulfilling their mandate
Knowledge, skills, competencies, and minimum requirements:
· Strong experience working with, and on, volunteer Boards of Directors
· Experience and understanding of Board roles & responsibilities
· Gives and receives information with clarity, attentiveness, understanding and perception
· Sets and maintains the highest standards while achieving a balance between organizational productivity and volunteer fulfillment
· Structures and maintains programming that meets Community League needs in the most effective and efficient way
· Draws conclusions by impartial evaluation of factual information and the perspectives of others without prejudice or bias
· Proven success in relationship building, excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills (advocacy, negotiating, networking, report writing and presentations)
· Maintains an open and flexible mind towards new information, thoughts and ideas, welcoming the opportunity to grow in knowledge and understanding
· Organizes time, work and resources to accomplish objectives in the most effective and efficient way
· Treating everyone fairly and equitably and maintaining high ethical standards
· Positive, enthusiastic attitude and an ability to work independently and as part of a team
· A willingness & enthusiasm to assist with additional exciting opportunities within the EFCL, including major events and serving on EFCL Committees
· Demonstrated computer proficiency and enthusiasm for organizing board development electronic resources and file management, using all social media, editing in online web content management systems, MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
Demonstrated commitment to the nonprofit sector and a passion for Edmonton Community
· 1 year experience in a related field
· Post-secondary education
· Must have the use of a car
Salary/Hours of Work:
· $50,000 per year, generous holiday package, plus benefits.
· Flexible work hours/75 bi-weekly.
