Guys, I just watched this video and it makes so much more sense and I ship Twiset even more now.
I always wondered if she had any parents, why did she stay in the human world with no magic and why they didn't show her as an alicorn.
But now it makes sense : she probably had abusive parents which made her have anger issues and doubt herself, which made her arrogant and egotistical. She saw Celestia as her mother figure so I understand feeling betrayed after Celestia kicked her out. She didn't have a good childhood so making friends was hard especially when she was always rude and pushing others away.
It explains why she didn't return to Equestria if she didn't have family back there.
Also, it saddens me but it also makes sense if Twilight was Celestia's plan B. I mean look at them! Sunset is practically Celestia. Same theme : Sunset/Celestia (sun cutie marks, similar color palette and beginning of the day). She just lacked friends and the qualities of a leader.
I mean what a weird timeline it would be if Sunset took over Celestia's role of ruler of Equestria and Twilight took over Luna. Which by the way they both have night themes (Twilight/Luna end of the day)
Look at this too, they both also fought with the same theme : sun = good and night = evil
I understand Twilight was destined to be with friends. But Sunset could have made friends if she was on the good path. Look at her cutie mark. It looks like the yin yang symbol.
I just love their contrast : sun/moon, different personalities: Sunset is arrogant and egoistic, while Twilight was also rude but more compliant. They're both smart, were both Celestia's students but only one got the good path. And finally, Sunset having no one while Twilight got a supportive family. God, I love them both so much, I don't understand why their ship isn't as popular as Appledash.
Yesterday i drew some human designs of the mane 6 and the princesses (excluding flurry heart) because the canon ones are STINKY!!!!!
All else you really need to know is that unicorn people have diamonds on their foreheads to act as horns, pegasus people have wings on the sides of their heads and alicorns have both
Also since i don't think i'll be able to fit all their races into the tags: twilight is south asian, pinkie is black, AJ, RD and cadence are all white, rarity is blasian, fluttershy is filipino and both celestia and luna are mixed between greek and egyptian
(Tbh like, half of the reason why i drew these was because i wanted to show people that i don't JUST post about danganronpa)
incredibly important images of sunset being Small
My Equestria Girls Headcanons!
Alright, I'm going to start with Sunset since I feel that she is the center of Equestria Girls.
My main change pre-friendship games is that both Pinkie and Fluttershy are her best friends. Both of them are the nicest ever! I also really love the importance of Fluttershy being one of the first to really befriend her because Sunset was quite mean to her and Fluttershy scares very easily, meaning that it probably deeply affected her. At first Rainbow is very untrusting of Sunset and keeps telling Fluttershy that she doesn't like how she and Sunset are becoming close. Fluttershy tells her that she can take care of herself and tells Rainbow to trust her. Once Rainbow lets go of her distrust, of course she and Sunset enable each other's crazy ideas wonderfully.
OH speaking of enablers Flash and Sunset become besties and he is also a part of their crazy schemes (and Pinkie of course). Fluttershy just anxiously watches.
After friendship games, I see Sunset going to study with Princess Twilight in Equestria while the homies are at school. She still lives in EG realm and spends lots of time with her friends don't worry! At first, Sunset is nervous to approach Celestia, but Celestia asks her if she would do her the honor of being her student again. Sunset gives an emotional yes, and their relationship is very mother/daughter. She joins Twilight on friendship quests when needed as a hands on application to her studying.
Meanwhile, Princess Twilight, while technically no longer a student at all, begins to train with Princess Luna in addition to her duties. Seeing Sunset train under Celestia, learning the same lessons that she did, she gets the odd feeling that Sunset was always meant to be the one learning the magic of the Sun. Furthermore, she sees Sunset taking and interpreting Celestia's lessons in ways she never did, like it just made sense for Sunset. Working with Luna, her world opens up and she connects with herself and those around her on a deeper level. By accessing dreams and aiding in friendship problems within them (similar to things we've canonically seen Luna do) she opens up more avenues for fulfilling her duties. She and Luna also become very close as Twilight recognizes and connects with the urges to isolate, overwork oneself, and the need to prove oneself. They also struggle with tolerating making mistakes and struggle to not view mistakes as proof that they are failures. The guilt complexes run deep. Of course, they also bond over knowing that that is not the healthy way to deal with these emotions. They understand each other and help each other grow!
Back in EG world, Rarity and Applejack are THE highschool sweethearts. Everyone at school knew that they would get together but they were still excited when they finally did.
What not everyone knew is that they almost didn't. Rainbow Dash confided to Rarity that she was growing feelings for Applejack. Rarity resigned herself to letting her friend experience the joy that she wanted. And, she did have to watch in agony as Rainbow Dash and Applejack dated for a week. It was an awkward courtship that ended in deciding that they just worked better as best friends. Once they had broken up, Applejack confessed a few weeks later that she had always had feelings for Rarity. Yay!
Rainbow Dash feels a little embarrassed about how how dating Applejack turned out. It turned out to be an infatuation in the end, but it didn't make her feel any less foolish. Luckily, she had her oldest friend Fluttershy, who always made her feel better when she needed it. Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are that slowburn where it's really obvious to everyone but them. Their relationship dips when Fluttershy gets frustrated at Rainbow Dash. She feels that Rainbow never makes room for her feelings and the things that she wants to do. At first Rainbow is defensive and gets mad back. But, she quickly goes back and apologizes to Fluttershy and says that she didn't realize she was doing that and of course she wants to know what Fluttershy is feelings and wants to do things that she wants to too!!! Fluttershy says that its not entirely her fault because she didn't say anything. They make up. Yay!! and also spend even more time (they already spent a lot) together as Fluttershy makes Rainbow do things like volunteer at the animal shelter with her and go horseback riding. Also, kind of random, but I think Fluttershy is secretly like really good at archery. During Rainbow's later half of senior year, she dates Lightning Dust, Crystal Prep's star soccer player. It's very toxic but Rainbow doesn't realize it until the damage has already been done. During their time dating, Rainbow gets tired of Fluttershy avoiding Lightning Dust, and starts to agree with Lightning that Fluttershy is holding her down so they grow apart. Ultimately, this is what makes Rainbow realize that Lightning is harmful for her as she is manipulated into becoming isolated from all of her friends. Of course, Fluttershy (and the rest) forgive her.
So Pinkie and Sci Twi... I'm not 100% sure where I want their stories to go. I definitely think Sci Twi is Pinkie's other best friend, so it's a matter of do I ship them or not. I'm not sure on this matter, but they definitely have hang outs where Pinkie bakes while Twilight studies and they have little conversations when Twilight needs a break from studying. Also Sci Twi gets really into the science of baking and she and Pinkie enter baking contests where Pinkie does the designs and decor while Twilight bakes the thing to scientific perfection. Sunset, Pinkie, and Sci Twi are the trio of the century and are given the superlative of "best trio" in the yearbook. On Sunset's birthday Twilight and Pinkie make her a cake with her favorite flavors decorated with memories from their friendship. It may or may not have made her cry. Oh, also the Pinkies (EG vs Equestria) like to switch every once and a while. They don't tell anyone. Sunset and Sci Twi figure it out after a while, but they play along.
I have more for all of them and stuff for college but I think that this post is long enough so I'll make a part two.
Curious, how would you have fixed up and made Equestria Girls better? The concept of an alternate world with alternate counterparts of the main cast of the main show isn't a bad idea for a spin off. Remember how Adventure Time did with that Fionna and Cake spin off, which was also a spin off focusing on alternate counterparts of the main cast (albeit with the added genderswapping too).
Plus Sunset Shimmer's story in general too.
The core concept of Equestria Girls is lame.
Like, in a vacuum, it really isn't that bad. But when comparing it to the main show... I think it's lame.
Well, I know the only reason Equestria Girls exists is because Hasbro wanted to compete with the Monster High franchise. This entire franchise is all about selling toys, afterall.
I personality think EG is lame for a few reasons:
The concept of taking these cute magical creatures who are (vaguely) adults that live in a cool fantasy world and turning them into ugly human teenagers (I don't like their designs) in a normal human setting is lame. Also dragons turn into dogs for no reason, which is lame and stupid and makes no sense.
The versions of the characters in EG are less interesting than in the main show.
The lore and world building makes no sense. Like, there are plenty of things from the main show that don't get proper explanation, but in EG it's so much worse.
I guess it'll be hard to make EG more interesting, since Hasbro wanted it to rival Monster High. So the base concept has to have the characters as humans in a high school setting. So it still has to have that.
Ok, how about this:
Star Swirl created the first portal in order to banish the Sirens to a world that didn't have magic. His spell made it so ponies and other fully sapient creatures turned into the dominant species of the planet, because his intention was to use Human Earth as the dumping grounds for magical villains like the Sirens. He created many more mirrors to other worlds in order to teach Celestia and Luna some lessons.
Sunset Shimmer was a little bit older than Twilight Sparkle when she was enrolled in Celestia's school for gifted unicorns. Sunset Shimmer had been Celestia's pupil for 2 years before Twilight came along. Celestia sensed that Twilight Sparkle was the Element of Magic, not to mention Twilight was the only one of her students who could hatch Spike's egg, which further cemented this. So Celestia began spending more time with Twilight, and Sunset became jealous.
Twilight and Sunset met occasionally, but never spent much time together. Neither Twilight or Sunset cared about friendship.
After Twilight and Spike moved to Ponyville, Celestia put her focus on her again, because even though Sunset wasn't the Element of Magic, she still had potential. But at this point, Sunset had grown jealous and bitter.
Celestia showed Sunset Star Swirl's crystal mirror in order to inspire her, and the rest was history.
Time works differently in the human world, so while Sunset spent years there, it's only been a few months in the pony world.
Sunset decided to steal Twilight's Element of Magic and bring it to the human world, hoping it would bring magic to the human world so that she can take it over, then eventually take over Equestria. Because of this, the Elements of Harmony now exist in the human world.
Twilight and Spike go to the human world to get the crown back from Sunset, and along the way they meet the other Mabe Sux.
Because of Sunset Shimmer using the crown, she gains powers and has brought magic to the human world. So there are a bunch of magic shenanigans happening.
The second movie can be the same, ig.
The third movie can be the same, except they reveal this:
I like this theory.
The fourth movie can reveal that the reason why the Everfree Forest in the pony world can function without magic, is because there's, like, a warp in the spacetime continuum that connects it to the human world or something.
Also, I'm going to make it clear that Sunset is only a few years older than Twilight, and neither Sunset or Twilight fall for Flash Sentry. Because of this:
That's all I've got for right now, I don't care about Equestria Girls enough.
Admitedly for how EQG handled redemptions, even the main show did share those flaws too. Several reformed characters aren't seen after they reform like Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, Gilda, Garble, Dr. Caballeron, Chancellor Neighsay, and Ahuizotl. And even with the reformed ones who appear post-redemption, Stygian and Babs Seed only got one appearence afterward (and even then, both hardly do much in those appearences), leaving only Luna, Discord, Starlight, and Trixie as the only ones to frequently appear post-redemption in the main show. So that issue with EQG does have its roots in the main show on some level.
Also, wasn't Luna instantly remorseful for her behavior the moment she was snapped out of her Nightmare Moon mode? Same for Starlight turning good after Twilight reaches out in the season 5 finale. I've seen some criticize Starlight for how everyone like Twilight, the rest of the Mane 6, and even Our Town forgive her pretty quickly (compared to Sunset being a social pariah for most of Rainbow Rocks).
I do agree with you on a lot of points. It annoys me how the main characters befriend these reformed characters, but we never see them interact with them again. Diamond Tiara is a great example. We learn about the pressure she is put under by her abusive mother, and she becomes friends with the CMC…but we never see her interact with them again. Yeah, we get a few scenes with her having fun with Silver Spoon and another filly, but nothing else on top of that. And I still have so many questions regarding Diamond Tiara. Such as, what is her relationship with her mother like now? Spoiled and Filthy Rich are still together, but the idea of Diamond Tiara continuing to live under the same roof as her abusive mother is horrifying. And none of this is addressed.
I wish that we could have seen more of Dr. Cabelleron and Ahuizotl as well. But I understand that the creators of the show just wanted to wrap up the Derring Do arc. That’s a big reason why many of these villains reformed and never seen again. The show just wants to wrap up these story arcs within the show, and move on. And while I understand these choices, as they want to focus on the main story that they are telling, it highlights a problem with the show: too many characters. I love MLP and credit them with my love of reformed villains, but I do feel that they reformed too many characters, and it made it dissatisfying when these characters who found a better way of life were never followed up on again.
However, it’s worth noting that a lot of these aforementioned characters were reoccurring characters throughout the series. In EG, a lot of these characters were introduced in a movie, were revealed as a villian, reforms, and are never seen again afterwards, which almost makes it worse, as we never get to truly familiarize ourselves with these characters that we’ve just gotten to know, whereas we’ve known characters like Garble and Diamond Tiara since season 1.
I don know if I agree with you entirely about Princess Luna and Starlight Glimmer. Any hesitation or lingering resentment that Princess Luna might still have held towards Celestia seemed to disappear upon their reunion (“I’m so sorry! I missed you so much, big sister!”). Also, we didn’t see Princess Luna at all until season 2, so we don’t really have much evidence that proves that Luna struggled to let go of her resentment.
As for Starlight Glimmer, she seemed kind of nervous, or anxious around Twilight initially following her redemption. Twilight and Starlight actually become very close as teacher and student, as well as friends.
Twilight Sparkle Redesign! This is part of an AU, so most of the characters I am redesigning will be different from canon..anyway, I wanted to give the mane six more flaws so they "pop out" more as characters. Twilight was destined for greatness as soon as she was born. Living with arguing parents, one of who expects perfection, and an older brother was tough. After gaining her cutie mark from freeing Spike from his egg, Celestia marked her as her star pupil and the new heir to inherit the abilities to posses the moon. Twilight was an excellent mage in her class, often passing her peers. Once Twilight was ready, Celestia gave Twilight Luna's powers, but at a cost. Twilight grew power hungry, seeking to explore more about the magic of different creatures. She began experimenting on any creature she could find: Dragon's, Hippogriff's, even her fellow ponies. Once Celestia found out of this, she grew furious. She took Twilight's Alicorn magic and sent her to Ponyville after hearing her talk nonsense about Nightmare Moon. Only a filly’s tale! Twilight resides in the town's library as of now, always being pestered by 5 specific creatures...Twilight is sometimes haunted by her form as Midnight Sparkle, especially after the incident at Everfree Forest during a camping trip. Anywho, I thought this would be a fun concept!Once I'm done with the mane six, I'll make their families :3. Also! Concept of Twilight as an Alicorn and Midnight Sparkle. I disliked EG so I'm scratching it, but I still liked some aspects. Midnight Sparkle will be the evil alicorn she turns into before her banishment. Sh still has nightmares of her past..
