"Naji, I can hear you following me. You're not exactly steathly..." Zabuza called over his shoulder, a slight edge to his voice.

Unabashed, Naji stepped from behind the tree she was (unsuccessfully) hiding behind. She stood in the middle of the path he was walking on. He turned around to face her. Finally, she spoke, "Don't go."

Zabuza made a small irritated noise and turned back around to continue walking.

"Don't think I don't know why you're doing this!" the woman called from behind him, her voice harsh. "You know this mission is too dangerous for you!"

That made him stop. He turned only halfway this time, smoldering anger burning in his eyes. "You think I can't handle this?"

"You know you can't." Her voice was confident, even though it wanted to tremble. "And that's why you're going. You want to lose."

He looked at her for a long time, before averting his gaze. When he spoke, his voice was low and rough. "Well maybe that's true. But it's no business of yours."

"Of course it is!" she cried, exasperated. She took a step closer to him. "I'm your friend!"

He forced himself to glare at her. If he was going to die, this would have to be a clean break. He'd need to sever this bond, so that Naji could let him go...

"I don't have friends."
