So, my partner’s really into Rocket League right now, and the other night he shows me this:
The “audience” watching from the stands in this game are not people. “Eggpeople” is what he tells me the fandom calls these things. He thinks it’s funny. But you know what I see?
I see the planet Spheron. I see the ugly byproduct of a horrible war set sometime after the year 3000. I see prisoners of that war forced into a role comparable to ancient gladiators. Teams of captive humans made to compete against one another in a gruesome game for the entertainment of their captors, driving rustic, antique, deathtrap earth vehicles, wetting the bloodlust of a once peaceful people---even using the body of one of the society's outcasts as part of their game!
Oh, the humanity. How can I embrace such a game?
