So, this was a real trial for me. I had a VISIONtm
Wow… HA! I knew this sketch was bad!
BUT! I knew my standard art choice of colored pencils wasn’t going to give you all what I envisioned in my head. So I pulled out my laptop, dusted off Clip Studio Paint and got a new drawing tablet! After years of having zero spoons to draw digitally I was ready to get back at it! I was inspired, I had a deadline, I was ready!
And then I got my writer and they had glorious, glorious ideas!!!

But the end deadline was coming up and I was running out of time, so I was starting to get stressed. And I got just past this point where I finally got Al’s lines to something I loved and was starting to color him and tragedy struck. My computer once again froze. (It tends to do this a lot sadly. I’m seriously considering throwing it in a bayou.) I didn’t just lose all the work from that day which is typical. No. I lost the entire file. It was completely corrupted. And the old saves I had were so long ago I just didn’t have the spoons to basically start over from them. I reached out to the incredible Mods of the event in full blown tears because my cup was so empty by this point. They were the absolute best. Thank you Godlizza and Urano and PhoenixArising and MothballMilkshake and everyone else!!! What little sanity I have left would have been completely lost without them.
They encouraged my decision to quit digital and go back to traditional media. They ensured colored pencils were perfectly fine.
I just, I just COULDN’T really accomplish the vision in my head with them… so I looked at my paint kit for my day job of making dragons and went fuck it. I drove to Michael’s, bought a pre-stretched and primed canvas for five bucks, took my 8x11 lineart to a copy place and had them enlarge it to 11x17 which my canvas is 11x14. Used that print to transfer my lines onto the canvas with carbon paper and started painting. This is what I had after that first day:
I finished the main portion the next day and let it dry overnight so when I came back to add the syrup chaos none of the main painting would smudge. And had a realization, this event is EGG-plosion… this is a kitchen disaster, why wasn’t there exploded eggs everywhere?!?!???
So. I added eggs in addition to the syrup and I have zero regrets with the final piece.
I haven’t painted on actual canvas since College back in 2001… (yes, I’m old, being level 47 is GREAT! I have soo many skills…) and I know if I ever get to art for another event I’m bypassing the computer completely and just going out and grabbing another canvas. This was so great.

A great exxsplosion on my microwave. God. A lession. do not warm up egg with hot wather or nothing else. It could get messy. Yeah. Messy.
