I hope you don't mind me asking for 1 more advice? It's less on the fabric & more on the sewing machine. I'm used to sewing cotton, and never sewn using stretch fabric before. It seems I need a senger machine? But from online research there are hacks kinda? But I don't really understand the terms. I have nylon thread already but it seems I need to change the foot? Something about Walking foot and twin needles? (2/2)
Idk if this helps by I own 2 sewing machine but they're both basic. One is kinda broken now so I should be throwing it away soon. I have a Brother XL2600I (which can be found on Amazon), and a Singer Promise. I did more research and it seems I need a ball point needle? I didn't think about to but do I need to change the needle on the sewing machine as well?
Hello there!
I actually have a panel about how to sew knits, mostly focusing on a sewing machine: https://fabrickind.tumblr.com/post/161757689089
Sergers make things faster and easier with knits, and you can get that nice finished edge, but they are far from needed. I’ve never touched my serger (oops...maybe I should try it out haha) and I’ve done a lot of stretch costumes.
You don’t need a walking foot, but it can help. I don’t personally have one. If you aren’t using a walking foot, you’re going to need some tear-away stabilizer to help prevent skipped stitches. I use the tissue paper that comes stuffed inside of wigs and it works well enough for my purposes.
You will, however, need either a ballpoint or stretch needle. These have a rounded tip that prevents the needle from piercing the fibers and creating runs in the material. Stretch needles have a special construction that helps prevent skipped stitches, and are great on stretchier knits.
Twin needles are primarily used for hemming. This isn’t something that you’ll likely use for construction. These also aren’t needed for hemming, but do provide a nice finish that mimics a coverlock hem, like the type of hem on your typical T-shirt (my panel covers various hemming options btw).
Pretty much any basic sewing machine can sew stretch fabrics as long as you have a zigzag stitch, though machines with more stitches will provide more options. It looks like on the Brother machine, you have several options -- anything that’s zigzag like will be a good option, and the more zigs and zags it has, the more stretch the stitch can take (generally). I do 90% of my knits sewing with a regular zigzag (since I’ve only more recently gotten a machine with more options), but if you are doing something like a bodysuit that will have a lot of stretch force placed on the seams, the stretchier seams can be very helpful. On the Brother, take a look at stitch #14 as well -- this is called either a “triple stitch” or a “straight stretch stitch,” and works by moving the needle back and forth to create 3 stitches right next to each other, and this space between them allows for it to stretch. It looks like a regular straight stitch when finished, though a little thicker, and is thus great for hemming and topstitching and other areas where you may not want a zigzag to show. (It looks like you also have several faux overlock stitches, which you’ll have to test out yourself on the particular knits you are using, if you want to use them for a seam finish -- that’s what a lot of the stuff on the bottom row is.) It looks like there’s several options on the Singer, as well, though fewer than the Brother.
When sewing knits, go slowly and guide the fabric gently, so that the feed dogs do most of the work. You don’t want to stretch the fabric as you sew, or allow it to stretch itself.
I hope that helps! Good luck. :] There’s a lot more info in that panel, as well, so take a look at that, and if there’s anything that’s confusing, let me know.
food!
I’m a terrible anxious eater??? Like it never helps and only serves the purpose of making myself feel worse afterwards but I always try to eat my worries and my sadness and everything away lmao. I also recently got into baking, so it doesn’t help lolol
hey Ari. Phone number got changed again. SOrry -A-
Yeah, I got your text! :D
Happy birthday. :) I post a post on Tumblr somewhere yesterday but I forgot to reblog it. I'll link it to you when I find it later. I think you'll like it.
Thank you ;w; and when you find it, definitely link it :D

5. I HAVE WATCHED OVER 300 ANIMES, YOU KNOW NOT WHAT YOU ASK. I am not exaggerating. I’m one of those good-looking secret otakus everyone fears.
11. One Piece. I did not expect to get attached to an idiot pirate boy with noodle arms and his rag-tag group of dumbasses so quickly, and while I don’t read or watch it much anymore, I follow it quietly!
14. Saddest Anime Award goes to two animes-- Grave of the Fireflies and Aku No Hana. Grave of the Fireflies is a renowned tearjerker and while Aku no Hana does not actually have a “sad scene,” so to speak, the underlying tones are unsettling and depressing, especially if you suffer from manic depression or anxiety, watching this show can hit you where it hurts if you’re paying attention to the characters (doesn't help that it’ rotoscoped, so the facial expressions are easier to read)
28. Most upsetting scene in an anime? Definitely ALL the torture scenes in Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, The “Nina” scene in Full Metal Alchemist, the “Mindfuck” scenes in Evangelion, and literally Elfen Lied in its entirety. Higurashi is known for it’s visually disturbing scenes, EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT NINA’S SCENE IN FMA, Evangelion traumatized me and I sympathize with Asuka the most because of her scenes, and Elfen Lied is fucked up.
29. Animes That Deserve a Second Season Award: Tokyo Ghoul, Aku no Hana/Flowers of Evil, Usagi Drop, and NANA. Yup.
I don't have a $1000. Can i prank you with a hug instead? :<
hahaha yes please ;u;. <3
thanks egnis, chris, anon.. for bothering to cheers me up ; _ ; .... on yours ways sadly you are so far away, I wish to get a hug T___T <3
