It was a breezy winter’s day. Snow cascading down, settling on the ground to create a fluffy white blanket.
You could hardly believe Egon had the two of you walking through this. Then again, it was Egon. His mind wasn’t on the cold right now.
You tugged your scarf up higher, trying to cover your nose- which you were positive had lost all feeling by now.
Egon, on the other hand, looked so incredibly unbothered walking beside you. He was purely focused on the list in his hand.
“What’s so important, anyway..-?” Yoir voice mumbled from under the thick fabric.
“Ray and I are trying to conduct further research on a strange substance we found underground the other day..- we were hoping that any of these books could give us some answers.” He said as he tilted the kust into your view. Your eyes gave it a quick scan Before looking back up to him when he pulled it away. None of the titles or author names seemed familiar to you, not in the slightest. But you were very used to unfamiliar topics when it came to Egon and Ray.

The air inside of the library was warm and welcoming and you were far too relieved to be engulfed by it once you stepped inside. Lowering your scarf, you finally let your poor rosy cheeks and nose thaw out.
Egon was already on his search for the selection of books while you struggled to follow.
You watched as he sorted through shelf after shelf, trying to find the specific books.
After a while, you took another look at the list and decided to help him a bit.
Your fingers slid along the spines, carefully reading each book title. You found yourself becoming just as focused as Egon, eagerly wanting to help him. He was always so focused it Could be hard to read him.
You’d had a crush on him for a while now and would do almost anything to help him in hopes that maybe he felt the same. If he didn’t, at least you got more time with him. Even if it meant trekking out in the freezing cold through wet snow just to find the most obscure books.
It wasn’t until your fingers brushed against a far too recognizable touch thay you snapped out of your focus and looked up. Egon’s eyes met yours. He stared for a moment before pulling his hand back and clearing his throat. “Any luck yet..-?” He asked awkwardly, eyes diverting back to the shelves.
If your cheeks had been red before, you were sure they were crimson now.
“I- no not yet-“ you responded, toying with a strand of your hair. “I’ve never actually heard of any of these before-“
“Like the book’s in Ray’s shop, a lot of these titles are not appealing to the average individual..”
You frowned. Average-? Is that how he saw you?
Egon gave you a small glance once more,”..Someone who doesn’t work in paranormal research anyway-“ he added.
You assumed that was his way of fixing his comment. You’d been working at the firehouse for a while now. To be fair you were far from “a paranormal researcher”, but you knew your way around for the most part. The guys had definitely taught you a lot and you found it to be an interesting job.
Giving him a forgiving smile, you turned your attention back to the books as well.
“Is it this one-?” You asked after a moment, sliding a book from the shelf and passing it to Egon.
Egon gave it a look over before you caught a glimpse of a small grin form on his lips. With a sound of approval, he took it from you,”Yes it is.. very good..”
You felt your own face lift in delight at the praise, the warmth returning to your cheeks.

After what felt like many hours, Egon had found all of the necessary books and checked them out. You even picked up a few of your own, looking to pass the time while your eccentric coworker did his research.
Once the two of you walked out of the library, you glanced up to Egon.
“Hey.. it’s really cold out.. do you wanna maybe get a cup of coffee… or hot chocolate- before we head back?” You asked, feeling the shake in your voice.
Egon looked down- which caused you to suddenly be reminded of the height difference there-
“I suppose we have time..-“ he responded much to your surprise. You grinned and led the way to the little cafe across the street.
Suddenly now you didn’t mind the cold at all.
The cafe wasn’t crowded, you assumed it was due to the weather and time.
Egon looked the menu over before the two of you decided on two cups of coffee and a chocolate filled croissant to share.
The cafe was warmly lit with nice tables in each corner. It felt private and cozy, the perfect place to spend time with the doctor.
You picked the seat next to the window so that you could watch the snow fall from your place of warmth. It was a much more beautiful sight when you were on the other side of it.
“These are really good.. have you ever been here?” You asked as you split the croissant for him.
Egon let out a small sound, taking a sip of his coffee. “No.. I don’t do this sort of thing often.” He responded.
“No-? Well… maybe we should do it more, then-? When you have time- I never really see you take any breaks.” You slid the plate over to him, holding your own half with a napkin. “That can’t be healthy, you know.” You bit into it.
“Yes.. I suppose you’re right-“ he picked up the pastry, giving it a small examination Before biting into it. You saw the moment his eyes lit up and he smiled. He took another bite with a small, just barely noticeable hum.
You felt yourself mirror the expression.
It was rare you saw him so happy. But you knew this man loved snacks.
“Is it good?” You asked through a laugh.
“Delightful.” Egon replied. “Thank you.”
“Let me know next time you can let yourself relax, I’ll take you out again.”
Egon looked up at you, his dimples showing now. “I’d like that..” he said. You couldn’t help but giggle at the way this neatly composed man was smiling with chocolate on his chin. You reached out to brush it off with your thumb,”You’re so messy-“ you teased. You knew he would’ve been offended if it weren’t for the fact he was bright red now. His brows furrowed and he looked away. “Yes I..- I apologize I-“ he reached for a napkin to clean himself off. You made sure to make eye contact when you licked your finger clean.
Now he was even more of a mess than he was with the chocolate on him, but only you could tell through the way his eyes grew wide and his ears bright red.
He fixed his tie and set out a tip for the waiter. “We should get back to Raymond— he’s likely wondering where we are.” He said quickly. You smiled to yourself, feeling your heart swell for this awkward man. “Okay.”

The bell to the cafe chimed as the two of you walked out together. This time around he offered you his jacket on the way back. The wind had picked up and he noticed your shivering.
When you entered the familiar firehouse, Peter was quick to pick on Egon for the shared article of clothing. Egon was instantly aggravated and as annoying as Peter’s constant prodding was, you felt yourself blushing at the insinuation.
There was no way he was getting this jacket back.
