The Valley of the Kings that stands on the west bank of the Nile, opposite Luxor, within the heart of the Theban Necropolis is a valley in Egypt where for a period of nearly 500 years rock-cut tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles.

The Valley of the Kings contains about 63 tombs and chambers. It was the principal burial place of the major royal figures of the Egyptian New Kingdom, and privileged nobles.

I was recently gifted a book on ancient underwater archaeology, specifically focusing on sunken Egyptian cities, and I cannot get over the incredible photos. look at these divers with this colossal pharaoh statue at Thonis-Heracleion! there are so many similar photos of sphinxes, sarcophagi, statues, vessels, gold jewellery, in situ or cleaned and reassembled underwater(!) and they’re giving me so many feelings
