The black heron (latin: Egretta ardesiaca), also known as the black egret, is an African heron, native to Sub-Saharan Africa. It is well known for its habit of using its wings to form a canopy to create shade that will attract prey when fishing.

狩りの方法は、このように浅瀬で翼を傘の様に広げ、その中に頭を隠し水中の獲物を捕食する。他にも狩りをしている動物に接近し脅かして、逃げた獲物が自分の作った傘の影に隠れた所を捕食する横取りスタイルなんかもやっている。
