Obelisk of Thutmose | at Karnak Temple

The obelisk of Thutmose I can be found in the Central Court of Karnak Temple, beyond the Third Pylon (c.1493-1479 B.C.E.). This is the last of four obelisks that once stood in front of the Fourth Pylon, which served as the entrance to Karnak Temple during the reign of Thutmose I. The obelisk stands 71 feet/21.7 metres tall, sits on a 6 foot/1.8 metre square base, and weighs approximately 143 tonnes. The obelisk has three vertical lines of inscription on each side, the central one being a dedication by Thutmose I. The obelisk is made of a single shaft of Aswan red granite. Via Egyptiva
