“What was so important we could not talk over the phone?”
He had gotten the message on his phone to meet her at home, and the tone in the message told him that it was not a good thing. It was short, to the point, and if he knew her well enough, there was anger in it.
“You.. you are going to pretend you can’t guess?” “Eh...” “You asked a body guard to beat up your own son?” “I had too do something..” “Oh no.. no you did not.”
She turned away from him. She hadn’t wanted to believe it at first, but the evidence was overwhelming. Specially the completely blood drained body she had seen in autopsy. The rest her daughter had filled her in on.
“I only wanted him to do what is right..” “He did, he followed his heart.” “But our plans..” “No.. your plans, like our parents planned out our lives for us.”
“And he was about to throw everything out of the window. Our reputation, our family’s honor, everything.” “You really think that?” “Yes!” “Then I guess were through.” “...What?”
“I have learned to love you Kunni, but this, this is not good enough.” “He could learn to lo..” “No.. he loves someone else, I have never seen my son so happy, and you... you ruined it.” “I was trying to..” “No, you were only interested in your reputation. The world has changed Kunni..its not the same as when we were kids.”
“So, I should accept him loving a man?” “Yes.” “But...” “No, you should accept that it makes him happy.. and if you can’t and you try your hand at hurting him again, you better lawyer up.” “Are you...?” “Threatening you, yes, I will leave you and take every penny from your accounts. I know all your dark secrets.”
“So that’s it then?” “You choose.” “Don’t you love me?” “I do, but I love our kids more. I want them to choose their life and what to do with it.” “I...” “If you want to be with me, and be in your kids life, you tell your son you will never do something like this again, and you let him live how he wants.”
He marched out the door, giving him some time to think. She was pretty sure he would make the right choice eventually, but it would take him some time to get there.
“What did she say..” “She told him she would leave him if he didn’t accept that we had our own lives to live.” “Well, that is mom for you.”
Khaled couldn’t believe what he had caused just buy falling in love with a boy in the city. His parents marriage was now on the line.
“I think he’ll come around. As much of an ass as he can be, he does love mom, and in his own way us.”
“I guess we wait and see.”

“Figured they would send you.” “Only fair to send the other vampire right?”
They had used to be fairly good friends, but Grant was one hundred percent loyal to the group, and Amenadiel had never really been. He was just in there because he had the right looks, and got what the boss needed easily most of the time.
“You might as well realize I will kick your butt like always.” “Sure.. but why not have fun?”
It was the same end as always when the two of them fought. He was older and stronger than Amenadiel, specially when one of them really had nothing to fight for.
“Boss sends his regards, and wants to never see you again.”
He knew it meant he would have to stay on the good side of town, making it much harder to get what he needed. But not listening would be the death of him, so he had no choice but to try.
“Come on...”
He had sendt in applications to every firm he could think off. The same day Amenadiel left he had marched straight into his fathers office, quit his job, and told him he never wanted to see him again.
“Khaled?” “Oh..”
His sister stood there in front of him, her arms crossed and a face that told him they would be having a talk. It was almost winter now, and he still hadn’t found a job. His mother and sister helping him with the bills and such until he got one.
“Not here, come on.”
“He did it to keep you safe.. it’s cute but why didn’t you tell mom?” “Because she would...” “Yell at dad?” “Worse..” “Well, I told her.”
He looked at his sister, wondering what on earth made her do that. And even more, what did it end up with.
“You did..?” “Yes.” “And?” “Lets just say she had a few well chosen words on her way out of the science lab.”
It was hard to believe his mother being angry. He had maybe seen it once in his entire life but he had heard rumor of it happening on occasion. How did his dad take that though, he never liked being talked back to. He most certainly hadn’t liked it when he had walked out on him.
“You should call her.” “Right now?” “Yes.”

“I must admit, I thought mom was joking when she said you had a vampire for a boyfriend.” “Well.. I was a little surprised when I found out.” “And really, he was supposed to kidnap you, and you brought him here?” “Is nothing secret between you and mom?” “No, I thought you knew that.”
“I can’t explain it.” “You know dad knows right?” “I had a hunch by the way my bodyguards are acting.” “You know he doesn’t accept it.” “I know, but he is going to have to.” “That’s my fear though.. what if he doesn’t?” “Then I guess I’ll make it clear that I will leave if he doesn’t.”
His sister looked at him and shook her head a little. She really wanted her big brother to be happy, but she knew their father, and he would not willingly accept his son’s choices. He after all had his entire life planned out, almost down to the dates.
“You know dad better than that.” “I’m hoping he’ll come around?” “Really?” “No... I am not sure how to handle it, but I’ll find a way.” “Okay... “ “Coffee and something to eat?” “Sure.. and you should put on something warmer, you look cold.”
He had forgotten how cold the lab was, but he also had some clothing here because he always forgot this when he visited.
One clothing change and coffee later, they were back to discussing what they both knew was the biggest issue right now.
“So, you really do need a plan.” “I know.. I was thinking maybe mom.” “That would be a good backup plan, but you need to find a way to make dad accept it yourself first.” “I know, I just don’t know how. He like you said has my whole life planned for me.”
The two of them kept on talking, tossing ideas back and fourth between them. His sister was after all his best friend, and they had a tendency to solve their problems over coffee and long talks.
“You can hear them, can’t you?”
Amenadiel’s focus snapped from what he was listening to, to the woman standing next to him.
“Yes..” “Impressive.” “If you think so.” “Promise me something?” “Eh...” “Don’t let his father steal him from you, I never seen my son this happy before.” “...”
She looked up at Amenadiel, noticing the look on his face.
“I’m a mother, I know my son.” “mm.”
As she turned back to her work, his attention went back to the talking upstairs.
“Im just going to have to give him an ultimatum. He accepts what I want, and we can keep working together, or I leave.” “You think he will buy it?” “He will have to. I have no intentions of playing by his rules for this.” “Thread carefully then.. I don’t put it past him to do any kind of shit.” “I know.. “
“He is super-cute though.. I can fully see why you like him.” “Oy!” “What, he is!” “No guy wants to be called cute, I thought you knew.” “Pfff.”
Amenadiel just looked up for a bit, shaking his head, before focusing back on what the two were doing. All the machines were making sounds, making it impossible for him to listen too the two upstairs.
Beginning - Previous - Next
When they were done with the tests, Asuka dragged Amenadiel with her up to the two others, so they could talk while the final tests were running in the machines downstairs.
“So?” “Well, there are some final tests that are still running, but I have a fairly decent idea.” “And?”
She looked at her sons face, shaking her head some at him.
“And, like I told Amenadiel, the reason why he gets sick when drinking some peoples blood probably comes from one of his parents.”
Now she had all of their attention, even though she had mentioned this to Amenadiel when they were working, it was still new to him so hearing it again was like confirmation.
“I can guess that one of his parents, the non vampire one, had some kind of disease that made their blood special. Now when it mixed with that of a vampire in a child, it changed how it worked.” “Meaning?” “You and Amenadiel have the same blood type; AB, it’s why he can drink your blood and only get tired.” “Why does he still get tired then?” “Because you have AB+ while he is AB-, had it been an exact match, it would probably have no effect.” “So if he drink someone with a different blood type?” “He gets sick, as he mentioned. The more he drinks the worse he will get. I don’t know if it could kill him, but I think it would make him very very sick.”
“So I need to ask people their blood type?” “If you want them as dinner, yes.” “Great, now there is a conversation starter for you.” “Excuse me, can I ask your blood type?”
As much as Amenadiel didn’t wan to he couldn’t help but smirk at their comments, so far he actually enjoyed being around Khaled’s family. Although he knew if he ever met the last one, it would probably not feel as nice. Then again, he was pretty sure they would never want to meet so it probably wasn’t much of an issue.
Mid their talk, there was a ding sound that made them all look at each other.
“Ah, now we will have our full answer, come on you all.”
“So...” “You are as bad as your father when it comes to waiting.” “Eh..”
She smiled, pulling up the final results on her pad, studying them for a while.
“Well.. if I was to guess, your mother probably had Sickle cell anemia, which you have inherited but the fact that you are a vampire means it works differently. Your body struggles with breaking down the blood, which is why you get so tired, and I think that will happen even if you find a perfect match”
She quickly explained how the disease worked in humans, as she could see that both the boys had no clue from the look their shared between them.
“In short, it means the idea of smaller meals for you is the way to go.” “Okay.” “That way, your system doesn’t get too much to deal with, as I think even with the right blood it could be dangerous for you over time.”
It was odd talking so easily about these things with other people. Him being a vampire was something until now only his old group had known, and here he was
She gave him some more tips, and promised to send more info as she did more studies.
“Now then, best we all head home. I told my husband I would be late, but he will start to wonder soon.”
“Okay.. what?” “I heard you talk.” “What do you mean?” “I heard you and your sister talk.” “Oh..”
Beginning - Previous - Next
“And I meant what I said,I won’t let him take this away from me.” “You know he might never talk to you again.” “Than that is his loss. I can find a new job, house and all that, but I can’t find a new you.” “It sounded more like he could do worse things.” “He talks big, but he would never hurt us.” “So just money wise then.” “Yes, and I can make my own.”
He still worried though, but his attention was taken by Khaled’s sister aproaching them.
“So guys, can I go with you, I think I’d rather not hear the discussion that will come from this when mom gets home..”
Khaled looked at Amenadiel who shrugged his shoulders.
“Sure, come on.”
Amenadiel had pulled a bit away when they got to Khaled’s place. He had a lot to think about, but his thinking was interrupted by the sounds of footsteps.
“Sorry, I just wanted to ask you something.” “Okay?”
“My brother.. he is very sure that our father won’t pull some dirty trick to split you two apart.” “But you don’t put it past him?” “No.. “ “Okay?” “Those two guards he has, they are payed by dad, and I don’t trust them one bit.. so could you keep an eye on them, just in case.” “Sure. I never liked them either.”
“Thank you.” “Eh..”
She knew from Khaled that he wasn’t used to people hugging him, but for her it meant to much to not give him a hug. It was a bit like taking weight of her shoulders to know she had one more person to look out for her brother.
In the end though, she left the two boys and headed home to see what the aftermath of their inevitable confrontation would be.
He had watched Khaled head to work, and he noticed his two body guards coming back to the house as usual when they didn’t have anything better to do, waiting to go pick him up again. He listened to them talk, noticing they seemed to be looking to see if someone was close.
As he watched them leave again, he knew where he was going for the day.
“A Spa.. huh.”

Although it had taken a little longer Amenadiel had fallen asleep not all to long after drinking blood. It would seem it didn’t take much for it to happen, which was something they could tell his mother.
“Amenadiel?”
He only got a muffled half awake answer from him, something that made him chuckle a little. Amenadiel sleeping was very different from how he was when he was awake.
“We have to head out.. think you can wake up?” “mm..”
“Come on then.” “Soon.” “My mom likes punctuality, you can sleep later.” “Fine..”
Amenadiel dragged himself out of Khaled’s embrace, stretching a bit before waiting for him to show the way. He had no idea where they were going, all he knew was that it was some kinda scientist lab.
“Oh yeah, mom warned they were having thunderstorms over there.” “Eh.. okay?” “Just in case.”
He didn’t want to mention it, but he hated thunderstorms, so he wanted to mention it just in case he wasn’t alone in it.
It was a long ride in the car which meant Amenadiel was sound asleep, while Khaled watched how they drove into the thunderstorm his mother had mentioned. Why they bothered him so much he couldn’t quite remember.
“It’s okay.”
He almost jumped when Amenadiel took his hand and moved closer to him while they were sitting in the car. For one he had thought he was sound asleep, and secondly because it surprised him that he had realized it that easily.
“Your mom isn’t going to hug me.. is she?” “No, not unless you hug her first.” “Your sister?” “No, I told her not to.” “I think were here..”
The building was fancy, unlike any he had seen before, but he had to admit he worried when they walked towards the door. It might be Khaled’s mom in there, and maybe they could help, but it could lead to some answers he wasn’t sure he wanted.
“You don’t look to sure.” “Can you blame me?” “No.. I guess I can’t.” “There are some answers I would want, but also some I am not so sure I want.” “Like?” “Information about my parents maybe, I never known anything about them.” “I am sure if we ask, she can just tell you what to do, and not why?” “Maybe.”
He wondered though how Khaled’s mom and sister were. He knew a little about his father, mostly from the news. But his mom and sister he only knew from what little Khaled had told him about them. They were close the three of them, so in a way, he felt like he was being shown off as much as getting help.
“Hi mom.” “Just a second.”
Khaled just smiled, and waited for her to finish whatever she was doing. His mother was never the one to just sit idle and wait.
“There, now then you will have to introduce me to your friend.” “A little more than a friend mom, but sure.”
Amenadiel felt more like running away when the lady in front off him got off her chair and gave Khaled a big hug. He almost expected her to do the same to him, but she just smiled and held out her hand.
After that, the talk pretty quickly jumped too why they were there. Amenadiel soon learning that when it came to her job, this lady was professional down to the fingertips.
“Now then my boy, you are going to have to let me and Amenadiel do some things, and you can go upstairs and keep your sister company.” “Eh..” “I don’t bite.” “I’m not so sure.”
Amenadiel watched her as she started to laugh, before dragging him with her to one of the many fancy lab rooms.
