Just finished episode 8, wow... this season is something special I feel.

Their eyes widened in shock at the question, feathers poofing up uncomfortably.

They were silent for a long, long time, their expression darkening with… grief. They looked away.

After another minute or so of silence, they began to speak softly.

“…Pompiliu, Silviu, Sorin, Petre, Ileana.”

They counted after a moment, taking in a shuddering breath.

“When… when I lived in Romania, I had five birds. Pompiliu, Silviu, Sorin, Petre, and Ileana. I knew them for a long, long time. They would… huddle around me, on cold nights sleeping outside, to keep me warm. I… did not have shelter back then, or food, or… really anything. Just an alleyway and a dumpster I slept behind. The doves kept me company, and we shared any food we found with each other.”

Their breath hitched, and they teared up, squeezing their eyes shut as they looked away for a moment, hiccuping. They tried to steady themselves with a shaky breath. “When I... escaped... I ... could not bring my birds with me. I miss them every day...” They were now visibly, deeply saddened, and was trying to hold themselves together as best they could... it was clear this was a sore subject for them.

I'm really happy with how this fanart piece came out!!

I wanted to challenge myself a little by trying out a few different art techniques I hadn't done before!:

foreshortening/low angle view(was DEFINITELY what I spent the most time on during the sketch phase cuz I wanted to get that angle just right!)

soft-ish shading(mostly trying to turn my usual "cel shading" style into a less harsh shading)

touch of motion blur (just a little extra thing i thought of trying, mostly just tinkering with the blur on my art program)

and finally, a different way of rendering sweat! (as I used to just use blue instead of a darker shade of where the sweat is)

and uh yea! had a blast drawing this piece! was both an art challenge for myself while also being very much self indulgent😈, which I think made the art process more enjoyable!
