Last night of the Hemingway Conference, Venice: Negronis with our Canadian friends Neil Stubbs and Kristin Ross; Carol with Mike Pronko, our Tokyo friend who comes from Kansas City (we know his mother), and the closing dinner at Al Giardinetto. Small world moment: Rosella told me one night that one of the best times of her life was the year she spent on a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

Veneto Excursion: In addition to the Ivancich estate, we visited a private hunting lodge and fish farm (Valle Gaetano, formerly the Valle Franchetti), where Hemingway did some duck hunting during his visits in the late 1940s.
