try   as   he   might   to   make   sense   of   it  ,    there   is   no   logic   to   this.      some   claim   that   every   person   alive   has   six   doppelgangers   somewhere   in   the   world  ,    but   reid   has   always   believed   this   extremely   unlikely  ,    and   besides  ,    it   doesn’t   account   for   much   of   what’s   outlined   on   the   articles   in   his   hands.      pulling   up   a   chair   opposite   her  ,    reid   pushes   the   pages   across   the   table      --      grainy   pictures  ,    name  ,    dates  ,    the   whole   nine   yards.        “      maybe   you   can   explain   this  ,    because   i   certainly   can’t.      ”

her   scent   is   not   that   of   a   vampire  ,    but   neither   is   that   of   a   human      --      which   makes   sense  ,    given   that   serena   carlisle   has   been   dead   for   over   half   a   century.      the   patterns   are   easily   recognizable  ,    given   that   his   family   follows   most   of   them.      but   does   that   then   mean   he   should   say   something?      he   can   find   little   point   in   doing   so.      still  ,    it   is   refreshing   not   to   have   to   hold   his   breath  ,    to   feel   the   burn   of   his   thirst  ,    as   he   approaches.        “      alice   asked   me   to   give   you   this   invitation   to   her   graduation   party.      ”

         Princess.   It was almost an alien title to her now, one that carried the weight of a billion lives lost, the ghosts of which shrouded her thoughts in every waking moment and even those not.   And yet, while the planet of Alderaan might only be rubble and dust, scattered, her title held still, because while even one person lived with the blood of Alderaan in their veins, she was their Princess.  And they were hers, to protect, in what meager ways she might.   And so, she offered a smile, genial, if not beaming, to the royal visiting her in her chambers on Chandrila.   “It’s an honor to meet you, Your Majesty,” Leia offered, a hand gesturing to the seat across from where she stood behind her desk in her office.   “I hope your journey was without complaint.”
