a good few years ago, to my surprise, i realised that i am not romantic. or at least i don’t know how to be romantic towards people.

i can romanticise the shit out of any situation. i’ll describe a spring day and capture the fleeting essence of a daffodil bloom. i can find the poetry weaved in amongst the turmoil of life. i’ll see the art hidden in a broken toy car left forgotten at a bus stop. i’m pretty sure i was born with rose tinted glasses on.

i just can’t convey it to people.

i know i can’t because i’ve been told many a time by many people in my life. or more so, they look at me slightly perplexed and say “you’re really are not romantic, are you?”. and i get it, i come off as the sappy cheesy romantic type but i’m just not.

valentine’s day is obviously coming up and it just always feels so blegh to me. even though, for the most part of my life, i’ve had a significant other on this day, i have never actually enjoyed it. all the stupid shows of affection just straight up give me the ick. even outside of the whole commercialised valentine’s day bullshit, i’m not romantic. if you asked those in my life, they would struggle to come up with an instance that’s considered romantic, that i’ve been responsible for.

i can be compassionate, supportive, loving, understanding, caring, kind, all the things that can make someone feel loved, it’s just the romance side of things that seems elusive to me.

1. Wake Up Sunshine by All Time Low

one of the best albums i’ve ever heard, and came into the world at a time that both i and the world very very VERY much needed it. also contains getaway green, which is one of the best SONGS i’ve ever heard. honorable mention to the whole rest of atl’s discography, but specifically dirty work and so wrong it’s right but more SPECIFICALLY a daydream away and vegas

2. Youngblood by 5SOS

it’s always tough picking between this and sounds good feels good but i think i have to go with youngblood. however i cannot defend this choice over sgfg so don’t ask me to. honorable mention to sgfg, obviously. and don’t stop EP!!

3. Busyhead by Noah Kahan

god, this album just Fucks Me Up. and noah kahan’s music in general fucks me. honorable mention to cape elizabeth, because holy shit.

4. The Click by AJR

surprising absolutely nobody :))) i think that on balance the click has the most ajr songs that i like ALTHOUGH the more i listen to neotheater the more i am swayed in that direction so. maybe we will just have to see. but SPEAKING of neotheater:

listen i also feel guilty including two ajr albums on here but i just think. i just think i Have to you know. like this is who i am at this point. i CAN’T choose between these two. HOWEVER honorable mention does go to living room but most specifically to livin’ on love <3 and growing old on bleecker street.

6. Midnight Memories by One Direction

the best one direction album, excepting the fact that long way down isn’t on it. seriously this album is BANGIN’ just for midnight memories and diana ALONE. will not hear otherwise. however i am using this 1d album as a sort of vehicle to give honorable mentions to the solo stuff, so honorable mentions here go to: walls by louis tomlinson, heartbreak weather by niall horan, and harry styles’s self-titled album.

7. Wake Up by The Vamps

had to pick a vamps album !!! and i think this is my favorite one, just because of how many songs on it i love. coming home, be with you, i found a girl, and cheater......’nuff said. honorable mentions to night & day in every single iteration lkjgkdjg
