chapter 2: his boba date
the next day, bakugou got up a little excited for what was to come today. he showered, brushed his teeth, washed his face, did his hair and changed into a black polo t-shirt and baggy light washed jeans. he decided to wear a chill outfit, considering the place you guys were going to wasn’t a fancy place. he then sprayed his best smelling cologne just so you could compliment it when you smelt him. he left his dorm room at exactly 11:55am, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he made his way to your dorm room. he stood outside your room, looking down at the floor for a second before knocking at the door.
“comingg!” you yelled sweetly, as you finished spraying your favorite perfume all over your body.
you grabbed your phone and opened the door to be greeted by bakugou and his sharp smelling scent. his eyes looked up from the floor to look at you when your door opened. he noticed the light smell of a sweet vanilla perfume. he enjoyed the scent of it on you. a smirk appeared on his face as he looked you up and down.
“you ready to go?” he asked.
“yup!” you exclaimed, closing the door behind you.
you both walked to the elevator and bakugou pressed the down button. you noticed him checking out your outfit a couple of times, pushing you to speak up.
“you like my outfit?” you asked harmlessly.
he looked down at you with a smirk on his face, his eyes roamed your body ever since you left the dorm. he shoved his hand in his pocket as he chuckled. “yeah, it looks good,” he complimented.
“thank you,” you smiled. you wore a baby pink cropped zip-up hoodie and a matching heather grey set with tapue birkenstocks.
“you smell good, by the way,” you complimented, looking down at his body.
he noticed your gaze down at him. “my eyes are up here,” he mentioned in a low tone.
you quickly darted your eyes over to the elevator buttons, too embarrassed to look at him. he laughed as the elevator reached the main floor. he started to walk out of the elevator before he stopped and looked at all the people that were in the common area. he wasn’t surprised that most of the class were there.
“oooo, where are you two going?” mina ran up to you excitedly.
“oh we're just going to this new boba place that’s not too far from here, you wanna come with us?” you asked. she was going to say yes until she looked at bakugou’s fierce expression behind you.
“of cour— uhm.. actually i can’t. i’m helping kirishima learn this new tiktok dance we’re doing together, maybe next time though!” she smiled at you.
“aww, okay, well we'll be back, bye guys!” you waved at everyone in the common area while bakugou looked down at you. he held you by the wrist and guided you out the door, a cocky smirk on his face as he led you outside.
you could tell he was a little irritated that you asked mina to tag along, but he was glad she at least got the hint to not come when she saw his vehement expression. he didn’t want others to be around and ruin his alone time with you.
“are you excited to go and check out this place?” you asked, trying to keep up with his pace since he was practically dragging you. he finally let go of your wrist as you walked alongside him, his usual smirk on his face as he began to answer your question.
“i guess. i’m more excited to prove that my spice tolerance is way higher than yours.” he teased, looking down at you.
“whatever, you already know the answer to that,” you rolled your eyes at him.
ten minutes later, you both finally made it to the boba place. bakugou opened the door for you as you stepped inside, and followed behind you.
“hello, welcome to taichi boba, how may i help you?” the lady welcomed you both at the register while tapping a bunch of buttons onto the screen.
“hello miss, can i get two large mango milk tea boba with two spicy tonkotsu noodles, in addition to your spicy sauce please?” you flashed her a sweet smile.
“of course, and will that be it?” she smiled while putting in the orders while you nodded at her question. “okay, that’ll be $21.15”
bakugou silently stood beside you as you told the lady your guy’s order, not paying too much attention and just waiting for you to finish talking. he looked around the restaurant while you placed the order, looking at the other customers and the decorations the place had. once you finished ordering, he quietly pulled out his wallet and swiped his card. you guys then stepped to the side to wait for your food.
“have you ever tried mango milk tea? it’s literally so good, i hope you’ll like it.” you scanned the restaurant and it’s decorations.
“It better be good, or you owe me from wasting money on that nasty shit.” he joked.
“it will be, trust me—” you were cut off by the lady shouting out your number order. you both grabbed your food and sat down at a table booth. “okay, try the boba first..” you scooched into the seat, sitting across bakugou.
he grabbed his boba cup, inspecting the drink at first, then took a sip from the straw, his expression remaining mostly neutral as always. he put the drink down on the table and looked at you with a smirk.
“not bad, i guess,” he responded, taking another sip from the cup.
“yay, i knew you’d like it!” you cheered.
you then grabbed a smaller bowl and placed some noodles into it while you added the extra spicy sauce and poured it into the bowl. bakugou did the same. once he finished, you both picked up a little bit of noodles, mentally counting down and both eating the noodles, chewing attentively. he didn’t appear to be affected by the spice as he remained calm and collected. he glanced over at you while you chewed the spicy noodles.
he saw a bit of sweat form on your forehead, making him snicker. he already knew he was gonna win this challenge. you swallowed the noodles, your mouth burning on fire. you stuck out your tongue and attempted to fan it with both of your hands. you then grabbed a napkin off the table and dabbed the napkin over your tongue repeatedly, trying to ease the pain by drinking your boba.
“oh my gosh, that was hot as fuck.” you coughed, indulging your drink.
he laughed at the way you cursed and watched you attempt to get rid of the burning sensation. he swallowed his own food slowly and was completely unaffected by the spice. he smirked and leaned back in his seat, his hands in his pockets.
“looks like i won,” he blurted in a cocky tone. “should’ve put a bid on this or something,” he continued to tease you.
“yeah whatever. well the good thing is i didn’t put that sauce into my entire bowl of noodles.” you switched your bowl, eating your regular noodles.
you two were now having random conversations, talking about anything that came to either of your minds. “so what made you want to become a pro hero?” you asked, twirling your noodles inside the bowl with your fork.
bakugou chewed on the noodles slowly as he heard your question, a bit surprised at first, but then he swallowed his food to answer your question.
“why do any of us here want to become pro heroes? to be at the top and become number one. to prove that we’re the strongest, obviously. why else?” he answered the question.
“i mean yeah, but is there anything else to it? like maybe something inspired you during your childhood.” you finally took a bite of your food.
he continued to eat his noodles slowly as you asked another question, this one making him remember his childhood. he thought it over for a second, thinking of a time in his childhood that he could tell you about.
“well, i guess there was once where me and mom watched some of all might’s videos when i was younger. you know, the one where he saved a million people at once during that fire.” he answered your question, looking down at the soup left in the bowl.
“aww that’s adorable, i never knew you adored all might. you actually made it seem like you hated him.” you giggled.
his eyes narrowed slightly as you said his answer was ‘adorable’. “i don’t 'adore' him, i’ve just looked up to him since i was a little kid. plus i don’t ‘hate’ him either. i just know i can surpass him and be even better than he is.” he explained, the cockiness in his voice.
“oh okay, that makes sense,” you nodded, smiling at him a little. he hummed as he watched you smile, leaning back into the seat after finishing his noodles.
“how about you? what made you want to be a hero?” he asked, tilting his head and looking down at you. he was actually curious to know why you wanted to become a hero.
“well, when i was seven years old, my mom died to a villain. i was so heartbroken.. and i wanted revenge. she died trying to save me, and i always thought becoming a pro hero would make up for her risking her life for me. she wanted to be a hero herself, but she was quirkless. so now, i’m going to make her proud.”
bakugou’s usual smirk slowly disappeared once you started to explain why you wanted to become a hero. he knew that you had lost your mom, but didn’t know how she died. he was surprised to hear that your mom risked her life to save you from a villain. he was silent as he listened to you talk, silently sympathizing with your story.
“damn, i’m sorry that happened,” he spoke quietly, his cocky demeanor and tone completely vanished. his voice now had a slightly more sympathetic tone.
“it’s fine, don’t feel bad for me.” you drank your boba. “but anyways, let’s change the topic.”
you two continued to talk until you were both ready to leave. it was now 1:00pm, and you both finally left the boba place. “today was fun!” you beamed, still sipping on the tapioca pearls from your drink.
he nodded in agreement, his hands now stuffed in his pockets as the two of you exited the boba shop. “yeah, it wasn’t too bad,” he responded, his voice sounding a bit more calm and less cocky than usual.
“y’know it’s much more fun being around you when you're not a complete crash-out, but who can blame you. if i was rich, top of the class, had an amazing quirk, and had supportive parents, i would be just like you.. maybe a tad bit nicer.” you laughed a little.
he huffed in slight annoyance. “tch, you wouldn’t be able to live a life like i do,” he teased.
“i said i understood you, rudeass.” you playfully nudged his stomach, but instead tripping into his hard abs. he smiled a little when you called him a ‘rudeass’, enjoying how feisty you rarely got.

once you both got back to the height alliance, bakugou ended up going back into his room. as soon as he did, he flopped down on his bed and laid on his back, arms crossed behind his head. he thought back about everything that had happened during the outing. a content expression on his face.
meanwhile ,you sat in the common area while mina and yaoyorozu asked you what had happened. you told them everything in full detail as they started ooh-ing and aw-ing, making you blush every time.
“he seems like a good guy, but i would still be careful, y/n. you should never trust a popular guy. i mean he’s popular for a reason, right?” yaoyorozu argued.
“i mean he’s popular because of his looks and athleticism. i think he has good intentions,” you argued.
“and i doubt he has a body count, but he does give out his numbers to multiple people,” mina added.
“i heard he doesn’t even text the girls back, but that one girl from class 4-C is totally obsessed with him. i think her name was e/n, she never gives up on trying to talk to him,” yaoyorozu called out, sipping on her tea.
“okay how about i won’t get myself hyped up, and just go with the flow? he may just be being friendly or something, and i don’t wanna get any ideas just from friendly gestures. plus, i don’t even think he would find me attractive.” you slid back off the arm of the couch and onto the cushions.
“i mean yeah, he always seems so serious or angry about everything, he never seems to show interest in any girls,” yaoyorozu said.
“he can be difficult to read but you never know what he’s thinking,” mina replied, nodding in agreement to yaoyorozu’s statement.
“yeah, i guess,” you sighed, covering your eyes with your forearm while lying on the couch.

it was now nighttime, and you were headed towards the elevator to grab a drink before you went to sleep for the night. when you entered the common area you were greeted with a lovely aroma and an even lovelier sight of bakugou shirtless cooking food.
“hey bakugou, watcha’ making?” you asked, opening the refrigerator to grab a bottle of water.
he slightly flinched when you suddenly spoke. he took a second to respond as he turned his head over to you. “i’m meal-prepping some curry for this week,” he answered, turning back to the stove as he began to stir the rice that was in the other pot.
“it smells good,” you complimented, closing the refrigerator and went to sit at the island counter.
he turned the heat down low so that the curry wouldn’t burn before turning around fully to look over at you. he leaned back against the counter as he watched you sit down, watching him cook. “of course it smells good, i’m the one making it.” he responded somewhat arrogantly.
“can i try some?” you asked curiously.
“come over here then,” he grabbed a bowl and spoon for you, then dished up some of the curry into the bowl.
you walked over to him and took a bite of the food. “mmm, that tastes so good. but, it would taste even better if you added some chili powder,” you added, reaching into the cabinet and grabbing the chili powder out of the cabinet.
his eyes twitched in annoyance, the thought of you perfecting his work? yeah right. he huffed softly as he watched you grab the chili powder, “i don’t need your help, it’s perfectly fine,” he scoffed.
“trust me, you’ll like it.” you eyeballed a little bit of chili powder into the curry, bakugou rolled his eyes, annoyed at the fact you were trying to ‘improve’ his cooking.
he grabbed a spoon and scooped a bit of curry into his mouth. he chewed the curry slowly and silently, reluctant to admit that the additional chili powder did in fact make it taste better than before. he didn’t want to give you that satisfaction of being right.
“it’s alright, but it was fine before, too.” he cleared his throat in defeat.
“yeah sureee,” you giggled. you could tell he enjoyed it much better. “i didn’t know you liked to cook, you must be good at everything,” you extolled, pulling yourself up to sit on the counter right where he was cooking.
he looked at you while you were sitting comfortably while on the countertop. he waited a couple of seconds till he glanced over at your body in your night clothes, thinking about how cute you looked while you were sitting there.
“yeah, my parents taught me a lot, especially how to cook. i’m surprised you morons don’t know how to cook,” he bragged jokingly.
“well, when there’s people like you, who needs to learn how to cook?” you took a sip of your water.
“tch, you’re damn right,” he smirked cockily.
he turned around and finished the curry. he was planning on saving some for his friend, but he decided to share some with you since you kinda helped. he grabbed the bowls and filled them up with white rice, then he placed some curry on top. he handed you the bowl with two wooden chopsticks inside.
“uhh, i don’t really know how to use chopsticks,” you admitted, scratching your head in embarrassment.
“do i have to teach you everything?” he sighed, taking the pair of chopsticks from the bowl he handed you and pulled them apart, then held them out for you to take them.
he grabbed your right arm, placing the first chopstick in between your index finger and your thumb. he then grabbed the other chopstick, making you hold it with your middle, index finger, and thumb.
“pinch the second chopstick and move it up and down,” he instructed, letting go of your hand.
you did exactly as he told you, moving your chopstick correctly. “i did it!” you cheered in excitement.
his smirk grew as you listened to his steps, not as hard-headed as he thought. “yeah, you did it, good job, weirdo,” he praised, a hint of teasing in his voice.
you both ate the curry, enjoying and finishing every last bite. once you two finished, you both washed your plates and headed up to your dorms for the night.
“goodnight bakugou,” you said, planting a soft smile on your face, as you were about to enter your room.
he followed behind you, his hands stuffed into his pockets, trying to hide the constant effect you had on him. “goodnight,” he responded with his gruff voice, but his tone lacked any real animosity.
after you closed your door, you jumped onto your bed, daydreaming about bakugou. “could this actually become something?” you thought to yourself.
you reminded yourself you didn’t want to get excited over a bunch of friendly gestures, but something coming from katsuki bakugou?? is ultimate, rare, once in a blue moon. you finally shook off the thought and started to head to sleep, yet a cracked smile was left on your face thinking about him.
once bakugou returned to his room, his mind raced while he closed the door. his thoughts immediately flooded with thoughts about you. he couldn’t help but think about how cute you looked sitting on the counter in your pajamas, how excited you were when you successfully used the chopsticks, and the smile you gave him as you said goodnight. he tried to shake off the thoughts, but they continued to linger in his mind, causing both annoyance and.. something else.
