The Features You Don't Know About in iOS7
Check out vimeo.com/channels/iOS7 for How-to videos I made for each of these features.
Text Message Timestamps This feature shows you timestamps in your text messages or iMessages. In the past, you would only get a timestamp every once in awhile. Now, however, you get an exact time that every one of your messages was sent. You can find your list of time- stamps by simply swiping message bubbles to the left.
Home Screen Organization In the past, you were limited to the amount of apps you could put into a folder. Currently, you can place an unlimited number of apps into a single folder, thereby eliminating multiple home screens.
Background App Refresh One of my personal favorite iOS 7 features is that apps now have the ability to refresh in the background. This means that apps are now able to periodically download data, before you even open the app. While this might sound like a data-hog, Apple includes a feature to allow you to turn off background data refresh for any app. In general, this is a big time saver.
Night Mode for Maps If you’re like me and use your iPhone as your primary naviga- tion while driving (for reasons like updated traffic information and the latest points of interest), you’ll be happy to know that your iPhone’s bright light will no longer be blinding you while you’re driving at night. The Maps app now automatically dims for night driving.
Block Unwanted Calls & Texts With iOS 7 you can now block calls and text messages from any number. You can manage your Blocked list by adding and removing contacts as you’d like.
Enhanced Siri Search Siri has some great improvements. You can now search pictures and find out what your friends are saying on Twitter just by asking Siri. If you’re doing an image search, ask Siri “Show me pictures of cats” and Siri will display photos without leaving the screen.
Global Text Sizing There is now a universal text size feature that lets you dictate your fonts across apps. We all know about the large Android phones out there. This feature helps Apple give you options while utilizing the crisp, beautiful iPhone display.
Camera Burst Mode Apple made some great improvements to the camera app on the iPhone 5s. One of my favorites is the ability to take up to 10 frames per second in burst mode. You can then go back and pick which frame you like best and save it as a full resolution image. (This feature is only available on iPhone 5s.)
Create Events from Messages You’ll notice days and dates are now underlined when you re- ceive them in a text message. If you click on it, you’ll be able to create a calendar event right from within the message. This is very convenient when making plans through text.
Make Siri a Dude For those tired of Siri’s female voice, in iOS 7 you can change Siri’s voice to a male one. Just to switch things up a bit.
I created a channel on Vimeo to support an upcoming article being published in Talk of the Town Magazine.
These 10 videos take you through some great features in iOS7 that you might not know about.
