Struggles of a 2016 Teen

Tonight she is laughing,

listening to a man on the television

with a plastic bag over his face, talking

about "my generation",

about mass emigration,

jobless futures,

jumping from bridges.

It offers a mild distraction.

But at the flick of a switch 

she's in meltdown,

the profile picture of her standing 

at the butt of the Spire

on O' Connell Street, Dublin,

rolling a cigarette, giving a peace sign,

only got seven likes,

and two friends on Facebook

blocked and unfriended her

Called her a 'freak-a-nature'

when she hash-tagged

Kim Kardashian's fat arse.

She's having a crisis;

because the hair straightener 

she bought on E-Bay

has left her in frizzles

and her new I-Phone is useless,

low pixels, weak battery,

fuck all Apps.

Tonight she's in total meltdown,

because the man on the television,

with a  thirty cent, non-recyclable,

plastic bag over his face,

bullshitting about "my generation,"

In a Limerick accent, 

looks like a 'total muppet'

and doesn't get her.
