I agree w/ Spanish anon, language makes you so much more connected to your culture. I'm Jewish and its p isolating that I'm not as fluent in Hebrew as my peers (but I'm trying!). I hope the way it's taught is improved bc it sounds like a struggle, but it's got to be better than the way they teach foreign languages over here (USA).
Languages are so important and I’d be absolutely terrified to see Irish go the way that Gaelic has gone in the school system in Scotland (I asked a Scottish friend if he did Gaelic in school and he LAUGHED because it wasn’t even an option).
