The blackmailer and consigliere stood nearby the slumped over mafioso, looking at him with concern for him, and also concern for his frantic behavior at the moment. The mafioso sobbed in front of a gravestone, a dirty, old one. Fit for the godfather himself. The town only tossed his body after they hanged him in, but the remaining mafia members crafted, or at least attempted to, a gravestone for their fallen leader. The blackmailer approached from behind, handing him a envelope. The mafioso peered up, wet eyes seemingly glaring, and he feebly took the package. The blackmailer, recognizing the glare being directed towards him, turned away and walked back towards the base, with the consigliere following quickly. The mafioso continued to weep hysterically, until he finally could rip open the paper. Wiping his eyes, he thoroughly read the letter, letting plenty of the included money fall to the ground. Much of the godfather’s written thoughts were clear, he wanted the mafia to forget he ever existed after death, and to urge them forward. The mafioso knew this meant he was the new godfather, but he pondered, “How could I do this when I’m so young, and in this sad state?” He gripped the paper tight, wheezing out tears at this point. Nearby, he heard a voice. The mafioso stumbled over, gulping his wails down. It was a town member, sitting in the graveyard, giggling at nothing. The mafioso blinked, confused to whether if she was crazy, then it struck him. She must be a medium. The mafioso narrowed his eyes and reached down, his sadness enabling him to become prone to anger so easily. To him, he thought how the medium’s probably insulting his father at the moment, laughing at his failure to lie, to live a life. With that, the mafioso drew his gun, cocking it. She turned quickly, but the bullet struck her in the face before she can utter a sound. He breathed hard, regaining confidence. To avenge his father, he had to keep killing the townspeople.
Several days had past, and the blackmailer and consigliere understood the mafioso’s new position as the overseer of the group. The now Godfather carefully threaded them around, but not without a few mistakes.
The blackmailer had gone because of the vigilante in town. So the mafia made sure he was killed off as well, in retaliation for the blackmailer. The young Godfather became obsessed with trying to savage the last mafia member left under him, afraid the rest of the family would be slaughtered. It went well until the Godfather sent the consigliere to dig around in the last town person’s house.
He never came back.
The Godfather tried his best not to cry in front of the well-known veteran that stood across him in the day. The veteran did a lot in the war, so he knew he could take out the godfather too, that is, if he can manage to stay awake.
It was night, the Godfather was placing rocks along the area of the dead mafia members he worked alongside with for so long. They were good men, hired by his father for a reason. Flowers for each of them. He was scared for sure, afraid the veteran would be awake tonight. The Godfather didn’t want to disappoint, his heart beating fast. He placed on his hat, took out his gun, and headed off the the only house with lights glowing from inside.
It was then, on the moonless night, a gunshot rang out.
