âI donât know, the leather looks very⌠Alluring on you.â
His face turned bright red and his hands stilled. âOh⌠UhâŚâ
Zephyr laughed, quite pleased with herself. âCome here, letâs fix whatever mess is going on with your hair.â
âOh yes, combed hair was definitely part of Dadâs formal getup,â he said as he sat down.
âHush, you. Just trust me, alright?â

Zephyr knew from her earliest years that she would be the one to take her fatherâs place as Chief. Well, Chieftess. Whether the people of New Berk were ready for a change like that or not. Unfortunately, it seems that more people were not ready for that change than she had hoped. But with a new threat slashing its way through the Archipelago, eyes set on New Berk and the secrets that flew away 2 years before Zephyr was born, she would have the chance to prove herself to her people soon enough. Whether she was ready for a change like that or not.

~Chapter 26~
Eirson and Zephyr waited as Osmond and Oscar took in what they had just told them. The silence made him feel incredibly uncomfortable as he waited for his two confidantes to berate him, accuse him, belittle him. He was still drowning in his guilt over letting a traitor on that ship. He wanted to believe that Halvor was innocent, that he needed refuge just like the rest of them, but he didnât know if he should.
Zephyr must have sensed his uneasiness. She slid her arm around his and rested her head on his shoulder. He looked down at her and half smiled, then leaned over to kiss her hair. He was glad she was here. He couldnât have done any of this without her. Not just filling in the bits of his story for his tribesmen, but everything since he brought his dwindling tribe to New Berk. And after she pulled him from the spring last night, he truly did owe her his life. And then before he could even begin to wrap his head around what had happened, she had kissed him. And he didnât have a clue what it meant for the two of them, he didnât know what they were or how he should act around her, he didnât even know how to start that kind of conversation with her. He was pretty sure they were toeing a dangerous line for the sake of their reputations with how physically close they had been since last night. But Zephyr didnât seem to care, and Eirson didnât either. Because the one thing that Eirson did know was that the only thing keeping him in the rocky but semi-stable mental state he found himself in was Zephyr.

Hello my lovely readers! This post is for @camelottree638 who actually requested some descriptions of the Haddock kids as I write them in Wingless and Warbound on my Discord server. I loved the idea so I am more than happy to do so! Sorry itâs so late Camelot!
Obviously we have visuals of Zephyr and Nuffink, and my physical descriptions of them follow what we see in THW and the Snoggletog specials, so for them Iâll focus more on their personalities. Iâll try to include as much physical description for the rest as I can since theyâre all original characters. Because these are general descriptions of physical attributes and personalities, there will not be any spoilers for Wingless and Warbound, but the ages listed are their ages in this story. So here we go!
Zephyr Haddock - 14 years old
Hair reminiscent of Stoickâs, typically worn in a single tight braid. Sometimes she will roll up her braid into a low bun above the nape of her neck to keep it out of the way
Green eyes very much like Hiccupâs
Her personality is a mix of both of her parents. She has a combination of Hiccupâs and Astridâs stubbornness (most unfortunate for all of New Berk). She has Hiccupâs hunger for knowledge, but Astridâs strength of will. She has Astridâs outward confidence, but Hiccupâs inner insecurities. She has Hiccupâs analytical brain, but Astridâs quick temper
She is a true blend of both of her parents, which blooms out of her desire to emulate the images her parents had built for themselves as leaders of New Berk
She refuses to acknowledge her age or gender as limitations, nor does she like to acknowledge her weakness. Which has, ironically, become her greatest weakness
Nuffink Haddock - 10 years old
Sandy blond hair like his mother
Bright green eyes like his father
He very much held the appearance of a wild child at all times through his young years
As he grew, his appearance remained an oddly perfect balance of wildly unkempt and appropriate for civilization
If Hiccup has the heart of a chief and the soul of a dragon, he forgot to hand the chief bit down to his eldest son. Nuff is purely dragon trapped in a humanâs body
True to his dragon nature, he is deeply loyal and deeply loves his family and anyone he considers family
He follows orders from his parents and Zephyr without questions and will support and stand up for them at every opportunity
He loves his younger siblings and watching them grow. He happily snuggles them, plays with them, teaches them, and loves on them like Zephyr and his parents did with him
His love of adventure has given Zephyr the idea of appointing him the traveling ambassador of New Berk when she fully takes over
Spero Haddock - 6 years old
Very dark hair, but the tints of browns and reds are very evident in the sunlight. His hair tends to lighten a bit in the summer months which also makes those warm tones more evident
He has very deep blue eyes, nearly grey at times
He is very lanky, much like young Hiccup was, but he is a bit tall for his age
In his first year of life he was sick multiples times, once bad enough that Hiccup and Astrid seriously worried for his life, but he recovered each time
However, he is the palest of the Haddock kids, which can be attributed to his recurring illnesses
During active colds or bouts of sickness, his eyes appear sunken and his skin pales to the point of being nearly translucent
He is always a very quiet child, but whenever he does speak, his intelligence is obvious
He loves to be hands-on with anything and everything he can, and loves working in the forge with Hiccup and Gobber
Gobber and Hiccup especially love having a young child interested in the forge, so they have no issues letting Spero get his hands dirty however they can
Because he isnât ever very vocal, itâs hard to tell what he thinks of any particular situation
There isnât much he honestly does not enjoy though, which is mostly due to the fact that as long as he can sit back and quietly observe, heâs happy
This is obviously different from the rest of the Haddock family, which worries Hiccup and Astrid that theyâre forcing him into situations that he is uncomfortable in; this very rarely is the case
That being said, if he is uncomfortable, he speaks up to someone he trusts
He is very shy outside of his home, especially since his socialization was limited due to his illnesses early on
He is much more likely to socialize if he is accompanied by someone he is very close to, which is pretty much his family, grandparents, and aunt/uncles
Willow Haddock - 3 years old
Born with extremely light blond hair that gradually darkened as she grew to a deep strawberry blond
Her eyes are light green and at times will appear more blue, especially directly around her pupils
She was a pretty plump baby, and one of Astridâs more difficult labors because of it. She slowly thinned out as she grew but is by far the healthiest looking baby Hiccup and Astrid produced
To match her very healthy weight, she has a very healthy attitude. She can be quite sassy, but quiets when she is truly upset. This is also when the rest of the Haddocks will quickly jump to figure out whatâs wrong (yes, Spero too)
That being said, she does not show this attitude outside of the Haddock household, probably due to the fact that the entire Haddock family dotes on her and protects her fiercely
Because of this, the rest of the tribe sees her as âNew Berkâs sweetheartâ that can do no wrong as she knows no enemies and behaves very well out and about the island
She consistently is attached to someone, though the subject of her attachment varies. There generally doesnât seem to be any rhyme or reason to her attachments, though whenever Hiccup leaves for an extended amount of time itâs pretty much a guarantee that sheâll be attached to him for a while once he comes back
Nutmeg Ingerman - 9 years old
Bright green eyes and dirty blond hair like both Ruffnut and Fishlegs
Her body build very much takes after Ruffnut: very thin and pretty tall
However she tends to have Fishlegsâ clumsiness
Unlike the Haddock kids, more often than not she walks around wearing a helmet Fishlegs designed for her and carrying a child-sized mace that Tuffnut gave her
Her best friend is Nuffink, and she often participates in his pranks with him. She also tends to be his voice of reason when things get a bit out of hand. Not surprisingly, all of Nuffinkâs worst pranks are some of the ones Nutmeg was not around for
She very much admires Zephyr and her confident, outgoing nature, especially since her personality tends to mirror Fishlegs
Because sheâs so shy and struggles with insecurities, she sometimes worries that Ruffnut wishes she was more like Zephyr and Nuffink
This is also what compels her to participate in Nuffinkâs shenanigans
She pushes herself to be outgoing and âact first ask questions later.â But if she feels like she caused harm to someone or something, she is extremely remorseful
Eirson - 17 years old
Tall and fairly muscular build, though he tends to try to make himself small (he doesnât carry himself with confidence at all)
Very dark, pretty much black hair like Alvin the Treacherous (his father) that reaches past his shoulders
Alvin gave him an old hairbrush that used to belong to Eirsonâs late mother. Eirson uses it daily so he is much better groomed than Alvin and it shows the natural waves in his hair
He always wears his hair in two loose braids that start at about his temples and meet at the back of his head. He ties them there with a simple strip of leather. Rarely he pulls all of his hair to the same spot and tie it in a messy bun
Warm, brown eyes always full of emotion
In many ways he is the exact opposite of Alvin
Very quiet, wears his heart on his sleeve, feels every emotion very strongly, often confused about his place in his tribe, lacks confidence in himself in most situations
Struggles to see himself in really any position within his tribe due to the tribe mostly questioning whether or not he belongs, which leads to him questioning just about everything new in his life
Also means he hates change in general, he is very much a man of habit
Despite having so many negative attitudes towards him, he responds very quickly to anyone who interacts positively with him
Hello my lovely readers!
For those of you that may have missed the update post, I unfortunately had some personal issues come up this past week, which on top of the start of university sort of took up all of my time. While I have the chapter mostly ready, I would much more prefer to give you guys my best work rather than throw a half-assed chapter to you when I know I could do so much better; not to mention itâs just not fair to my betas to rush them like that. Which means that, while this week was supposed to be the last weekly update, we are going to make the switch to bi-weekly a little earlier than I had planned. Not to worry though! We will definitely have the chapter next week, and every other week thereafter!
Since I had promised a chapter this week, I said that I would give you guys a sneak peek off of the draft of the next chapter. So here is a snipet from Chapter 14: Alliance in Trouble!
~~~
Eirson had sent Aurboda to New Berk with the letter a few days ago and was expecting her back anytime with Zephyrâs response. Well, hopefully, at least. Assuming his training worked well enough. He just hoped the letter wasnât too... Too...
Eirson sighed. He just hoped the letter didnât make things worse.
He groaned and scrubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands. Well, this wasnât helping his state of mind.
âRough day?â a gruff voice asked from partway up the loft stairs.
Eirson jumped and sat straight up in bed, turning to find his father staring curiously at him with one eyebrow raised.
He raised his hands in surrender. âJusâ yer old man, son.â He turned with a groan and started walking back down the stairs with a bit of effort.
Eirson sighed. âWell, the old part is definitely right,â he muttered to himself.
âWhaâ was that?â Alvin asked over his shoulder.
âUh, sorry, Dad. I guess I was pretty lost in my thoughts.â
âHaddock girl again?â Alvin huffed between groans. His knees must have been bothering him again. Then again, his right hip had been giving him a lot of time trouble as well...
Eirson pulled himself out of bed and followed his father down the remaining stairs. âOh, you know, just worried if Bodi made it to New Berk or not. First trip on her own, and all.â
Alvin huffed a chuckle. âSkipped over the Haddock girl question, I see.â
Eirson rolled his eyes. âSit down, old man. Iâll bring you some stew.â
âYeah, yeah,â Alvin waved him off, but he was smiling when he sat down.
~Chapter 14~ Eirson didnât do well with conflict. It was something he always struggled with, and something he knew he would have to overcome eventually. Most people on Outcast Island knew this, especially Alvin. It was the reason why his father had torn the village to shreds over spreading rumors and criticizing Eirsonâs place in the village during a meeting when Eirson was twelve. Alvin had always done everything in his power to protect Eirson. Eirson knew it was how his father showed his love. He fell back into his bed and rubbed his eyes. It had been a rough day, and he was excited to sleep for as long as his dad would let him. In the two weeks since Zephyrâs announcement celebration, things had been a little strange around Outcast Island. The sail back alone was nearly a week, but once they did finally return to Outcast and news of the Haddock successor spread, people started talking about Alvinâs successor too. Again. Apparently the shock of the Haddock announcement overshadowed that memory of the public beratement enough to get people talking again. Eirson wasnât sure how he felt about all that. He was older now, and more accepted by the tribe than he used to be. The older he grew, the more he resembled his father, which meant the rest of the tribe gradually began to accept that he truly was an Outcast, whether his mother had been or not. Which, admittedly, put him in a better position in his tribe than Zephyr was with hers. But they still loved to gossip, which didnât make things any easier for Eirson. He sighed. Yes, he knew he didnât do well with conflict. But today was not the day to overcome that. So instead, he distracted himself by focusing on the words he had sent in the letter to Zephyr. ~Continue reading on AO3 or FF.net~
Teaser #2!
Hello guys! Hereâs another teaser for my new fic!!
This week Iâm giving you a short sneak peak of one of the first few chapters, and another one of my OCâs named Eirson who will show up quite a bit throughout the story. This interaction in particular is between him and Zephyr. Of course, the final draft of this chapter hasnât been nailed down yet, so this scene may or may not change. However, this is a pretty good example of the dynamic between these two.
Enjoy!
