"Play of late Chief Ogolo of Opobo - men dressed in ritual costumes." photographed by Arthur Tremearne, c. 1913. MAA Cambridge. Ọkọnkọ masquerade known as Atụ, bush cow.
Ekpe, also known as Egbo A mens secret society flourishing largely among the Efiks of the Cross River State, the Oron, Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria. Ekpe is a mysterious spirit who lives in the jungle and comes to observe the ceremonies and rituals of the Ekpe. Members of the secret society are said to act as messengers of the ancestors (ikan). The Ekpe-men are ranked in seven or nine grades, for promotion to each of which, initiation ceremonies, fees and oaths are necessary. The society combines a kind of freemasonry with political and law-enforcing aims. Ekpe men always wear their masks when performing their police duties, although individuals may be recognized by citizens, fear of retribution from the ikan stops people from accusing Ekpe members who might overstep the line and act out of order.

دعاء وتأمل إيماني
لا حول ولا قوة إلا بالله. وذكّر فإن الذكرى تنفع المؤمنين. اجعل هذا التذكير محطة قصيرة للسكينة، والاستغفار، وحسن الظن بالله.
