ralph, i was wondering if you could explain a big question for me: what is our best alternative to capitalism? socialism? communism? marxism specifically? anarchy? i feel like i see a lot of these solutions from leftists but no explanations as to why one might be better over another

The reality is no-one knows.  No one knows how to replace capitalism - and we won’t know until we’ve done it.  I think that’s both exciting and terrifying. 

And while I’ve certainly known people who debate what comes next - and dreaming of a new world is important, but I think understanding the limitations of our knowledge is just as important.

ralph, i had to come here right away to rant about the t shirt. i’m so disgusted. what is stopping harry from donating a lump sum of money to the WHO without first selling merch? or better yet, why isn’t he donating money to the millions of people now out of work? or paying for meals/housing for health care workers? or paying for people’s hospital bills? of course i know why but it’s still inconceivable to me.

as a follow up to my last rant, i feel i must also add that the shirt is just ugly. i know aesthetics are beside the point but it kills me that the design looks like it was made in 2 seconds on microsoft word

Thanks for coming here to rant! It is like terrible and also absurd and also just mindblowingly stupid. 

I assume that Harry has donated some money to WHO (although questions about whether he’s paying the people who would have been working his tour seems more pertinent than ever).  But it wouldn’t matter if he’d given his entire fortune to WHO - creating your own COVID-19 merch is a fucking terrible idea on every level.

In this case, including aesthetically.

not sure if you know/it matters, but i was surprised to learn that the vogue cover dress was originally a pink color—the fact that they remade it in baby blue for harry/vogue weakened the impact of the garment imo. we can’t know for sure why the dress was blue or any color besides pink, but it feels a bit like some of the people with creative control wanted to avoid dressing a man or masculine person in a typically feminine color?

That’s definitely one possibility - but there are always others.  There were probably wider questions of colour pallette, both for the vogue shoot and for vogue more generally. It may also be a question of Harry colouring - maybe he/other people feel that colour washes him out (he’s worn pink before, but much more vibrant forms of pink)

I find that shade of baby blue super insipid, particularly in the context of this dress, so I object to it from that angle.  I think if I knew that they’d decided to change it from to pink to blue, because pink is seen as a feminine colour, then that would make a difference.  But at hte moemnt it’s just a possibility.

i started it last night! it’s...interesting, it’s a very interesting shift away from the sound of her last couple albums. a little slow at times but i think overall i like it.. but i havent listened to more than a few songs yet though

lol it’s okay, i can’t stand the show anymore either but ian and mickey have been my favourite tv couple for the better part of 10 years now so i’m going to see it through to the end.

if not and you want to be vague about it you could ask like what the company culture is like? i don’t have a ton of experience in this though best of luck !!

i’m more worried about the location than the company since like alabama is known for not being great towards nonwhite & lgbt+ people

10 things I (re)learned while visiting the Museum of Modern Art today

1) Museums can be really fun! But try to go at your own pace. 2) It's okay to look at a single painting for half an hour. 3a) However, people might look slightly askance at you if you scribble all over your museum map because it's the only piece of paper you have. 3b) Bring a notebook, silly poet! 4) Don't feel obligated to take the audio tour. It's okay to want to look at the art but not want to know its in-depth history. 5) No-flash photos of the art will never be as awesome as the art itself, so try to avoid picture-taking impulse and just be there. 6) But don't get annoyed at all the other people taking pictures because that will just waste your own energy, and it's more productive to spend that on the art itself. 7) Multimedia art is really cool! 8) And also weird. 9) Like, REALLY weird. 10) It's okay if you don't understand or don't like a piece of art. It doesn't make you dumb. It's okay to like what you like. 

I had to tell myself this one over and over and over, but I think it's the best lesson of them all.
