Skeksis are a violent evil species who all fight each other and backstab. Not SkekEkt and SkekAyuk. They hang out, gossip, discuss their tastes and health, and SkekAyuk held a welcome home banquet just for SkekEkt. There is a reason why the fandom has shipped them and seen them as the Gomez and Morticia of TDC for years.

Do you have any headcanons on SkekAyuk and SkekEkt? Why do you think their relationship is so much more wholesome than any other skeksis pairing?

I will answer you question first before doing headcanons. Personally I think they have great chemistry. The franchise doesn't explore at lot with their relationship and only gives out a few bread crumbs, but all of their interactions are positive. AOR was especially generous, considering we got things like Ayuk’s grand gesture and legitimate worry towards Ekt. Also worth noting that the two exchange recipes with each other and, in the book adaptation for the movie, they were in the same political faction with skekSil. Honestly they seem like they enjoy being in each other’s comapny and it’s cute.

Headcanons are below:

SkekAyuk:

Out of all the Skeksis, skekAyuk is the biggest pleasure seeker. He’s addicted to the short highs he gets from indulging in pleasures as a way to cope with his fear of death and keeps doing so at the expense of everyone around him, mostly Gelfling. 

Aside from eating, skekAyuk also copes by making jokes about his own stress. He surprisingly leans towards a lot of self-depreciating humor.

He gets impatient waiting for food to be ready. This is part of the reason why (aside from their tendency towards sadism) the Skeksis’ cuisine involves a lot of raw, and living, animals. 

SkekAyuk can be one of the most dangerous Skeksis when enraged, especially when he feels cornered. His strength when in this temperament can be comparable to some of the stronger Skeksis. 

SkekEkt:

Since skekEkt is in charge of architecture, he often goes out of the Castle to oversee construction projects all throughout the Skarith region. 

His vanity hides his growing self-consciousness over his aging body. A lot of his trial and error makeup is done to find ways to make himself look younger at the expense of the podlings he experimented on. SkekEkt also loves, along with the equally self-conscious skekOk, making fun of the other Skeksis and Gelfling for various surface-level reasons (and towards each other in secret).

SkekEkt is scarily attentive to detail to the point of having the best emotional intelligence out of all of the Skeksis. He is able to tell what someone is going through right away and is very skilled at picking up secret information. He even rivals skekSil in that regard. The Chamberlain would seek skekEkt for his information to use for his own ploys and saw the Ornamentalist as a powerful political ally. 

Although he loves the idea of being Emperor, it’s only on a surface-level. Having worked closely with skekSo on occasion, skekEkt doesn’t see the glamor of ruling over the Skeksis Empire. He tries to stay out of politics when he can, but this doesn’t mean he wouldn’t try to exploit it for his own gains.

How about skekEkt X skekAyuk?

EktAyuk is a classic Skeksis ship! And you can really trust them to treat eachother right! I think their dynamic is very cute and lighthearted. Kinda like a fairytale. Or at least to them anyways! Also they got the height difference thing going on and That’s super cute AGG! I personally love drawing the ornamentalist like a beanpole so that makes it even better. I think it was a good move on the writers of AoR to flesh out their relationship more since they knew they were a popular Skeksis ship in the fan base since the beggining. Just agh!! Cute!! I’d draw more of them if people would like me to. I just know my She/Her Ekt HC is a little controversial so I usually hold off from drawing her even though she’s one of my favorite Skeksis.
