When she first me you, she genuinely had no idea you were trans

She met you and she saw that you were a really cute guy

She saw the way you dressed, how you presented yourself and was like, "ok"

She had no reason not to believe you or not take you seriously

El had never heard of such a thing, given she had grown up in isolation, and even after she escaped it wasn't a common thing for the time, not widely known anyway. So when you told her you, she was confused at first.

"But you are a boy?"

"Yes, but, I wasn't born a boy"

Once it was explained to her, she got really excited.

She had no idea people could do that!!!

How cool!!!

It changed nothing between you guys

You were still the guy she had crush on before she even knew what a crush was

But if she hears anyone, and I mean anyone make fun of you, or misgender you she gets really mad.

She'd stop in her tracks and face who ever did it

"He is clearly a he."

Or really, any pronouns you felt were right. Point is, she would not have a problem correcting them

If they wouldn't listen, or they'd make some offhanded remark, she'd do little things like make them trip and fall

Like she gets really mad

It genuinely baffles her that people didn't find it as cool as she does

But most importantly, she'd set her anger aside and shower you with love and affection

Her top priority would be making sure you were okay and happy and feeling safe

That's another thing

Eleven is affectionate AS HELL

Given her past and how she grew up, she is starved for affection

So this means lots of hugs, lots of cuddles, lots of touching - she always had to be touching you and that meant either holding your hand, hanging off your arm like a monkey or just having a hand on your arm or back somehow cause damn it she just loves being near you

BUT if you aren't into that, if that's something that you don't like or are uncomfortable with she TOTALLY understands

Cause guess what??

She gets it

She doesn't like it when people she doesn't know really well or trusts pat her or tap her on the shoulder etc cause it reminds her too much of the bad men and it feels too much like she's being grabbed

And whose to say she won't be

Even after all this time she still has some PTSD from several different things and she just doesn't like people she doesn't know well touching her

Especially her tattoo, people always go to look at her tattoo and think they can just touch it

No. Just don't

So if you ever say you need space, you don't feel like being touched or you're just someone who doesn't care for that stuff, she will 100% respect your boundaries

You're her boyfriend, of course she want you to be happy!!

Of course, you didn't know about her reasons for not wanting to be touched by other people, cause at that point you had no idea about her or anything she had been through

All you knew was that she was pretty elusive around most, a little quirky - in the cutest way possible - and weird things always seemed to happen to people who harrassed and/or misgendered you until it pretty much just stopped

You didn't find out about all of that until later, after you had joined the party

Meeting the party was quite interesting

When she first introduced you, everyone was acting super weird and kinda nervous and almost scared??

You thought it was because of your identity, and they weren't comfortable with it

It really fucking sucked

But it was weird cause it wasn't nearly as bad the next day

Everyone was way more relaxed and you found out why

El had intimidated them pretty bad before they met you the previous day, and they were all just so nervous about screwing up and getting yelled at - or worse - by El

As far as your identity, they didn't think much of it

Sure they had a few questions but they were polite about it and before you knew it, the topic changed when Lucas and Dustin got sidetracked and ended up fighting about Star Wars for forty five minutes

It was a huge relief

They all thought you were pretty cool and it wasn't long before you were officially the newest member of the party

They all love you, and they all love how happy you make El and vice versa

Before, you had El looking out for you - which by herself is death wish for anyone who thought different of you - but now if anyone, I mean ANYONE so much as breathes wrong in your direction they have the party to answer to

And Robin too for that matter, oOF SHE'S SO PROTECTIVE AND SCARY

being apart of the LGBTQ+ community she knows how terrifying it can be to be yourself, and how dangerous considering once again how conservative everything is, but oh my lord she sees herself in you and immediately wants needs to make sure you are okay and are embracing who you are and that you are comfortable and safe doing so

Immediately she became the protective older sister

Yeah, just don't mess with her, she's smart she can mess with people

Point is, you've got all these people that love you, care about you, respect you, and look out for you [not just in this headcanon folks 😉 I got your back too]

And don't forget

They've faced rogue government labs, Russian spies, and an interdimensional monster army so some small minded terf is no problem ;)

look at that!! it’s projecting my pain onto my favorite characters hours!! el getting migraines is something I think about a lot, so I’ve decided to write some hcs about it. I’m gonna jump to au at the end a bit, but let’s start with canon (also this is gonna feature some mileven 💕)

okay so, given her powers, I think it’s more than reasonable to assume el gets migraines

especially once she loses her powers and is trying so hard to find them, she would definitely strain herself

joyce gives her painkillers and an ice pack to put over her eyes, and she holds her hand while she cries and writhes bc the pain is so bad

but normal painkillers aren’t working, and el starts getting almost ten a month, and joyce starts to get really concerned

she wants to take el to a doctor, but el understandably has a lot of reservations

el doesn’t even have medical records; they can’t very well explain her medical history to a doctor

so they go to owens who manages to get her a prescription for migraine meds

they help sometimes, so el is grateful, but it took her a while to agree to take them bc even tho hopper trusted owens el struggles to trust anyone who was ever associated with the lab, and she’s even more reluctant to put something prescribed by someone from the lab into her body

but one time the pain is so bad she’ll do anything, so she takes one

It doesn’t help, but the next time she gets a headache joyce asks her to please take one before it gets bad, so el does, bc she knows joyce would never do anything that’s bad for her, and sure enough it stops the pain

but still, it’s not 100% effective 100% of the time, so sometimes she still gets really bad ones

joyce and jonathan take turns taking care of her when they get bad, holding her hand and making her any food she can stomach, lying with her until she falls asleep

will doesn’t have that parental instinct as much, he doesn’t know what to do in the moment other than not make too much noise, but he’s good at that, and every time el gets a migraine she wakes up to a little drawing outside her door the next morning

she always calls out for mike when she gets a bad one, half delirious with pain, just writhing and asking for mike, asking for the pain to stop, and it breaks joyce’s and jonathan’s hearts

but eventually there come times when mike can be there to hold her, to brush his fingers gently through her hair and press soft kisses to her forehead

it kills him to see her in so much pain, but having him there makes her feel so much better, and he’s so glad he can be there for her

they get really bad once her powers come back, and mike is always there by her side, holding her and helping her get some water down, letting her hold his hand as tight as she needs

and it’s a treacherous task, given that her powers are a bit volatile now that she’s been so long without them; the first bad migraine she gets after getting her powers back she screams in agony and breaks a window

she breaks various things during various migraines early on after getting her powers back, but she never hurts mike. joyce gets worried about their safety, but she also knows nothing could get him to leave her side if she’s in pain, they all know that

eventually el gets a handle on her powers, and the migraines and property damage settle down

she still gets them a few times a month, especially when she uses her powers too much, but as she gets older and the threats are gone, she usually has no reason to use her powers too strenuously

and mike is always there, in that apartment then house that they share, ready to take care of her, to stay up with her and press feather light kisses to her forehead

this last point also applies to a no powers modern au

honestly I love the idea of migraines being a subtle little allusion to her powers in non powers modern aus

she inherits then from terry, so becky knows how to help her through them, and becky coaches mike on what to do and what to not do

and you know mike takes studious notes and memorizes them bc he’s an A+ student and el is the most important person in the world to him 💕

max takes care of el every now and then, her gentle side coming out as she strokes el’s hair

as teenagers/college students, karen and joyce both come to accept that mike will end up falling asleep with el in her bed when she gets migraines, and while Karen has her ingrained reservations at first, she knows she couldn’t ask him to leave her; she knows how much she means to him, and she’s glad he found someone he cares so deeply about, she’s proud of him for being so loyal and caring

overall, no matter what universe, el knows she has so many people who love her and will hold her hand through the pain
