Chen learning Luna/Elder Magic, part 3

Chen was panting heavily, her body and clothes ragged, but she had a grim smile on her face. She straightened up, clasping her hands together. In quick succession, glowing runes etched themselves into the air behind her, and she channeled elder magic through them, aimed at an item that she had imbued with powerful magical defences.... and completely obliterated it.

She had done it. She had managed to cast Luna 5 times in quick succession. She was confident that she had mastered the spell, at least to a level where it was viable to use it in battle.

She had nearly broken her body to do so, and she had nearly been taken over by the 'Dark' magic herself, as so many before her had been... but she had managed it. There was a small flicker of purple in her brown eyes, but she knew that would fade with time and rest.

She had nothing to fear from elder magic, as long as she could control it. She would need to be careful where and when she decided to use it, since it took a little longer to cast than a normal spell, but it did mean magical defences could no longer stop her magic.

True, the spell didn't do any damage on it's own, it simply pierced through magical defences, but Chen had more than enough magical power to do damage with it.

Maybe her first target for it should be those dragons, they seemed to have fairly good defences against magic...

...But first, she would need rest and recuperation. She could probably sleep in tomorrow, since she wouldn't need to get up early to practice this spell any more...

Apocalypse is literally going high on dark magic. It’s the best thing, and I’m kinda sad Bramimond wasn’t playable in FE7 with its own tome.

Chen learning Luna/Elder Magic, part 2

Chen had finally managed to learn to cast Luna on her own, without the tome.

Now, though, came the really dangerous part.

Trying to learn how to cast it efficiently. Quickly.

If things went wrong, she wouldn't necessarily be able to tell too fast. She'd be too focused on trying to get the spell right. After all, she needed it to basically be similar to muscle memory if she was going to use it in a fight. Once she got it down to that stage, it'd require less focus so she'd be able to keep her focus on her opponent, instead of needing to focus in which case any decent opponent would be able to blindside her while she was trying to cast it.

It was clearly pretty rough going, just looking at Chen after the first day of her trying to learn it. She'd been caught unawares by it going wrong several times. There was a large dent in one of the walls that she would need to fix at some point. Her body was bruised and battered, she was breathless, and her eyes kept flicking between their normal dark brown and purple, her pupils changing to slits when they turned purple, and for the current moment, they were also unfocused.

Chen caught her breath a little, and, with a great effort, brought herself under control. She closed her eyes, took a deep, shaky breath, and when she opened her eyes again, they were dark brown once again, and coming back into focus.

"...I... I think that's enough for today." Luckily for her, Ran and Yukari had been too busy to pay her too much mind lately, it seemed. So she'd likely be able to slip out of her room, fetch herself some food, and then head back to her room to eat without them noticing anything was off.

Chen learning Luna/Elder Magic

"Ok, I think I've got it down..." Chen said to herself, looking over the pages of a black tome that emanated an... odd aura. Not quite a malicious, dark aura, but something very close to it. So close that most not attuned to magic would not be able to tell the difference. Even some who knew would make the mistake, hence why some called the magic she was dipping into 'Dark Magic' rather than 'Elder Magic'.

"I've managed to cast this spell a few times with this tome... Now I just need to master doing it without the tome." She snapped the book shut, looking to a piece of paper she had written a few runes upon. "I simply need to focus upon these runes while I cast. I don't need to worry about speed too much for the moment, I can learn to do it quicker with practice.

Chen closed her eyes, raising her hands. The runes upon the paper started to appear, one by one, slowly, behind her.

...Until her concentration broke. She got halfway through the 4th rune when her focus snapped, her eyes snapping open.

"Shit!" She spoke, raising up a magical shield and bracing for impact, a moment later she was send flying backwards.

The spell was designed to go through magical defences, but luckily, since she hadn't finished the spell, and it hadn't been focused for a target, she managed to block the worst of it. Still, her body slumped to the floor after being blasted back into the wall.

She laid there, motionless for a moment, before pushing herself up, panting a little, her eyes flashing between her normal brown with normal pupils and purple with slit pupils, her hands clenching on the floor a little, leaving gouges in the wooden planks.

After a moment, she gave a deep exhale, closing her eyes, the remnants of the magic leaving her body in a dark, smoky wisp that floated off of her body and dissipated.

"...I... think that's enough for today." She said. Her back was hurting but her body was fine to continue... that's not what she was worried about. "...And I think I might need to do a little more research about this magic and what it entails..."
