“Lifetime Tales”

Back in March, I accompanied a busload of people from my department and other departments on campus to a home for the elderly. We met people who have lived interesting lives. Some have traveled far and wide, some served in one or two of the World Wars, and others just said they lived more colorful lives with a laugh. Whether or not they had a bad life, these people lived theirs. After everything, they still laughed from the heart and they made us do the same. 

It’s important to note that whoever/wherever you are (physically or mentally) you have a story and you are an inspiration to somebody. Take nothing for granted. Live with love in your heart.

Dear Elderly Folk, 

Hey there, hope you're keeping well. I just wanted to thank you for making my day. School's been really tough these days, to be quite honest, and I've been struggling a lot with the fear of what's going to happen to me when I'm done the program, so it's been really hard for me to remember why it is I chose this. 

And then I meet wonderful people like you and I remember that I'm here for the connection. To sit with you and talk about loss, love, and life, and to share in your story. I am honored to be able to touch your lives and have you touch mine.

So thanks. Thanks for reminding me why I love my field, for reminding me that there are things in the world greater than myself. And thank you most of all for sharing your light with me, and allowing me to share mine with you.
