i hope you had a great time on your vacation!
reporting for duty, sir. i’ve been slacking on the mission of making our bartys, well… fuck each other, as one says. (vacationing now, so i can nurture my mental back to health (or maybe crash out when i have to go back to work in three weeks, time will tell) and then i will get back to that mission)
but actually that’s not what i slid into your asks for. i just read your post about my dearest enemy and eldritch evan AND HOW WAS I NOT AWARE YOU HAVE AN ELDRITCH EVAN IN YOUR RANKS??? HELLO??? i fear hunter evan just got demoted to my second favorite of your evans. i’m sorry, but ELDRITCH EVAN IS LITERALLY MY FAVORITE CONCEPT OF EVAN OF ALL TIME!! i’ve had dreams about eldritch evan. please tell me mde is a fic you’re writing (or wrote? am i just to stupid to find it?) and please yap about eldritch evan? please? pretty please?
i did! it was exhausting, not going to lie, but the experience was worth it. there is something special about seeing animals in their natural habitat where you'd usually only see them in captivity. and meeting someone who has been dear to you for the last two and a half years does heal you quite a bit actually. if only time wouldn't fly by as fast as it does sometimes...
anyway! don't fret. i fully understand the toll the corporate world can take on a brilliant mind. i just finished my degree myself, and it was a hell ride. with that being said, i fear i have to admit that i, too, am slacking off on the job quite a bit. i still owe you a rosekiller foursome, don't i? but, as of now, my head's drawing blanks, and i decided to focus on tstbua instead, for the moment. they are not out of the world, though, and once you feel ready to tackle that beast again, i will be back at your side.
now to eldritch evan: it fills me with joy to see they have another disciple within their camp, even if it comes at the cost of demoting hunter evan (don't worry darling, you'll always be a favourite of mine). however, before i say anything on the topic, i kindly recommend you chatting up @panchashire in regards to this most ancient and vengeful spirit. he is the true mastermind behind them, and his love for that being outrivals mine by far. i am simply a spokesperson and a servant. my brother in everything except blood wanted an Eldritch possessed Evan who torments his cheating boyfriend (and said boyfriend's brother), so who am i to deny him? the fact i get to torture belsh is simply another convincing argument for me to hit the keys and put in the effort.
yes, mde is being written — technically, because the fourth chapter has been stuck in development hell for the last six months, and i haven't found the courage yet to dig myself through this construction site. it's always the 30k mark that breaks my camel's back. aside from that, i never intended to publish it, truthfully. mde is my last stronghold, my comfort fic. i couldn't bear the idea of publishing it only for it to be ignored. oc x canon ships are not what interests the vast majority in this fandom, and even if someone promised me to read it, there is always the chance that, in the end, they won't. me saying this is not meant judgemental by any means, because i understand that often there is a lack of time and not of will, but in times where it's hard to get people to engage with your art to begin with, it remains a sore topic.
nevertheless, i have been toying with the idea of changing my mind and publishing it regardless, because this might be the fire under my arse which i need to get back to work on this wip. han has also expressed interest in mde, and i know irene would never fail me. so, perhaps, i can be persuaded after all.
but what are my thoughts on eldritch evan? they're definitely more androgynous than you might expect them to be, because evan with the same ethereal beauty as an elven prince or adrien fahrenheit tepes aka alucard while being absolutely lethal and merciless is what really gets my gears going. the concept of weaponised feminity as well as sex as means of psychological warfare is something that intruiges me quite a lot (and something i also try to explore in tstbua. yes, i am also not above being a trope repeater). and there is nothing i love more than having the comphet character broken and bent because a beautiful, godlike entity messes with every truth the character ever believed in. the element of grief and guilt belsh's character arc adds to this story is simply the sprinkles on this tragedy milkshake in toast's bakery of the devious and debauched. and let's not forget the eco-terrorism the eldricht actively engages in. born from the sea and the woods, it has an intricate understanding of nature and its forces, and they will use that to their advantage. it despises humans for the sole reason of existing and exploiting nature: building towns, weaponry, machinery, polluting the air, the sea, destroying the earth and enslaving its inhabitants. the eldritch had more than a couple millennia where it slumbered and plotted its revenge on everyone who ever wronged them, humanity especially.
why the obsession with evan, you may ask? simple. because evan's vulnerable. his partner is currently swapping him out with some old man, whom evan more than dislikes, and vice versa, and he is left behind in their lab, alone and doing most of their work. the eldritch sees that, sees the rift that is slowly opening up between them, and sticks its hand in. only to evan do they become audible, only with evan do they share their knowledge, all with the intetion to gain his trust and, thus, preparing their future host. and evan falls for it, because he is a scientist and he is lonely, too. soon all that matters to him is the eldritch and what they can teach him. he doesn't even realise how mad he's become. and the eldritch grows fond of him, because evan is not stupid. he is, in fact, rather brilliant — and headstrong. while they possess him, they not only develop possessive feelings for him but also protective ones. what starts off as a parasitic relationship morphs into a symbiosis sooner or later. it's hard to explain what exactly the eldritch feels for evan, because them merging together changes both in ways that are too much to be summarised as merely love, need, or companionship. they end up being one, for better or for worse.
