Dynasty Politics Takes a Hit in Assam as Bharatiya Janata Party Secures Full Majority
The Assam Assembly Election Results 2026 have delivered a major setback to the Indian National Congress, with several high-profile defeats highlighting a shift in voter sentiment.
Gaurav Gogoi, son of former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, lost the Jorhat seat by over 23,000 votes. Similarly, Debabrata Saikia—son of former CM Hiteswar Saikia—failed to retain his Nazira stronghold, losing by a margin of 46,000 votes. Another major upset came as Diganta Barman, son of former CM Bhumidhar Barman, was defeated by over 84,000 votes in Barkhetri.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Alliance stormed back to power for a third consecutive term, winning 102 out of 126 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party alone secured 82 seats—marking its first-ever solo majority in the state—while allies Bodoland People's Front and Asom Gana Parishad won 10 seats each.
These results signal a clear decline in the influence of dynasty politics in Assam, with voters seemingly prioritizing performance over legacy. For Congress, the outcome serves as a crucial wake-up call ahead of future electoral battles.
Post-Election Violence in Bengal: BJP Accused of Seizing TMC Offices, Tensions Rise Across Districts
Following the West Bengal Assembly election results, several parts of the state have witnessed violence and unrest, intensifying the already charged political atmosphere. After the Bharatiya Janata Party’s significant victory, the Trinamool Congress has accused BJP supporters of forcefully कब्जा over party offices in multiple areas.
In Tollygunge, reports claim that after Arup Biswas’ defeat, BJP supporters allegedly took over a TMC office and replaced the party flag. Similar incidents of vandalism and arson have been reported from Dabgram-Fulbari and Berhampore.
Tensions also escalated in Bhabanipur, where a TMC councillor’s office was attacked, vandalized, and nearly set on fire. Police later intervened to control the situation.
The unrest has spread across several districts, with reports of clashes, damaged properties, and targeted attacks on political leaders’ homes. The Election Commission of India and central authorities have urged all parties to maintain peace and avoid retaliatory politics.
With rising tensions after the transfer of power, maintaining law and order has become a major challenge for the administration. All eyes are now on how quickly stability can be restored and how the new government responds to the crisis.
