Electra leant back against the brick wall behind her and glanced up, also smiling. “And I’m really pleased for you, Remus,” she said, sounding totally sincere, and feeling it too. “I’m glad you found your place, found something that makes you happy.” It had been kind of touch and go for a while; married at twenty, divorced by twenty one, it had been a whirlwind of a year for the both of them, trying to finish off their bachelor’s degrees, whilst all the while preparing to move to different cities, at opposite ends of the country, to continue their education. They’d talked about making it work long distance, of course, but in the end had had to call it off.
“It’s nice to see you again.” Looking at him, she felt a flutter in her stomach and her smile began to falter. She had to look away. The students he’d brought with him were wandering around the gardens outside the library, exploring. She swallowed and started to dig around in her pocket for her packet of cigarettes. “It’s nice to know that we made the right decision, you know?”
