The old and the new....

PACIFIC OCEAN (October 19, 2020) -- Past and future intersected when a quadcopter-style drone resupplied, at sea, one of the United States Navy’s oldest submarines, Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730). (The submarine was commissioned in 1984.)

                   Delivery complete....the drone heads for home.

The test event was successful....with the 21st century drone depositing its package (look to the far right in the video) for pick-up on the submarine’s hull by waiting crew members....and returning to operators aboard a nearby surface ship.

Electronics Technician, Submarine, Navigation, 1st Class Carlos Gonzalez, USN and Chief Electronics Technician, Submarine, Navigation Michael Inman, USN, pilot the drone from a nearby surface vessel.

While short in distance and small in size, the experimental operation demonstrated potential for future resupply operations without the need for ports or, even, nearby ships. (Or Amazon Prime!)

*COMPETENCE, DEDICATION, DISCIPLINE*

ARABIAN SEA (October 10, 2019) -- That’s the ship’s motto for United States Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Bainbridge (DDG 96)....pictured above on patrol in the Arabian Sea....several thousand miles from home.

In the second photo, Electronics Technician 2nd Class Christopher Thornton, USN, mans a .50 caliber machine gun while the ship transits dangerous, and often crowded, waters.

The warship and her crew of nearly 300 American men and women returned in November 2019 to her homeport in Norfolk, VA, from a seven-month overseas deployment to the Mediterranean and Middle Eastern regions.

Now, the ship and her crew are deep into the lengthy, intensive training and maintenance period required to prepare for her next deployment....likely coming sometime in 2021.

this doodle was produced late at night, in a burst of frustration/procrastination.

Some day I will figure out how to hold a soldering iron, Wire, and Solder roll with only two hands.

This is a Rhythm Master Drum Machine.

The machine has 4 voice circuits, they are on the board with visible components. From left to right; a kick drum, two toms/clavs, and a noise voice. The voices are triggered in different combinations to simulate 7 different drums, with varying degrees of verisimilitude.

There are 10 preset patterns selected by buttons on the front panel. Although not designed to play more then one pattern at a time, it is possible to force more then one button down at a time.

The machine has no memory, the patterns are etched onto the circuit board. All the other circuitry is made with discrete transistors.

This particular unit has no case, No idea how that happened. but I'm putting it into a 2u rack-mount enclosure. It also didn't work, but I fixed that some time ago.
