election ramblings
Ok. I’ve had it! This election is a circus. Last thoughts: 41) I hear HW Bush did some things that were absurd similar to our current POTUS. My opinion? Well, my recollection of him is he didn’t like broccoli, and I thought that was nuts. Given, I was 2-6 years old when he was in office. 42) Clinton was awesome because he played sax. And I sure got sent out of the room a lot when they talked about him on TV. Obviously 29 year old Alison knows why. Enough said. 43) 9/11 is my first REAL political-ish thing I can remember exactly what was going on. How I felt. Where I was. And I’m sure grateful GW Bush was in office instead of Al Gore. My exact words to someone (at 15 yrs. old), “I bet Gore would be complaining all that smoke and debris was affecting the environment.” Things I think about when I’m watching debates, reading articles, trolling Twitter: 1) I hope to be a mom in the next 4 years. If I can’t feel comfortable with them listening to THEIR POTUS on TV, that’s a problem. Even though they can’t vote, he/she is going to be their POTUS, too. 2) Quit whining. If you think people in your party are hard on you, wait til you’re debating with the other side. Wait til you have to go meet with Putin. I hear he’s a totally kind, swell guy. *sarcasm* 3) Be gracious. Not the politics kind. You know where I feel like your speech resembles you’re reading the side of a cereal box? Yeah. That’s not it. Full blown. Not sure the words to use graciousness. 4) Realize you’re the leader of hundreds of millions of people. And they are all ages, colors, hairstyles, lifestyles, genders, and lovers of ice cream flavors. Your normal is not the same as theirs. My American Dream is not the same as yours. Please quit trying to put us in a box. And your “promises” shouldn’t resemble that box. 5) Tell me how. Don’t just talk at us. Explain. Pretend I’m some of my favorite people (that happen to be under the age of 10). They ask more questions than anyone could imagine. Some are ridiculous. But, others make me think, “Yeah. That. Answer that.” 6) You’re #1 responsibility is the safety AND livelihood of those millions of people I talked about earlier. How are you going to handle that? Don’t have a crap plan. Find wise, able minded people to help you come up with that plan. By the way, wise and smart are not the same thing. 7) Realize you’re probably not ever going to be the smartest person in the room. But, you need to respect the ones that aren’t as smart as you, too. Treat the CEO that is writing you a campaign donation the same as the janitor who showed up just to hear what you have to say. Their vote means just as much. 8) Last but not least. I feel like I yell this at the TV each debate. QUIT INTERRUPTING. I’m really sorry you’re not getting your turn. I understand you don’t like or agree with the other person. But, seriously. You look like a jerk. And disrespectful. Please see #2, #3, and #7. Folks, this election is so very important. The next few months we may or may not watch our leader appoint a new Supreme Court justice. But, how that plays out will show us some true colors of a lot of people. Our country is truly at stake. I know I am not the only one concerned. But, as we vote, and decide…please remember #4. You’re voting for the POTUS. What is best for our country? Not just you. Yes, please vote for someone who resembles your thoughts and beliefs. But, are they going to work well with others? Are they going to make an agenda for America? Or just their own? Maybe I’m blind. Maybe I am looking through rose colored glasses. But, I am tired of the ugliness. I am tired of the fear mongers. I am tired of name calling. Whining. Lies. Really tired of lies.
