International Flag of Planet Earth, except it's zoomed out, all other celestial bodies are simplified and it's made elegant.

from /r/vexillology Top comment: I've had this stored in my computer for a while trying to redesign someone's Earth Flag but couldn't improve past it's simplicity and elegance. I've since moved on to another design. Stars are shown emanating from the center where Earth is because I figured light would be easier to see with more light (similar to how solar eclipses block out light but focus it so it's stronger) but this is most likely not the case. ~~Also because of a glitch in Inkscape that happened to look nice.~~ Double Rings are planets with rings. The Sun is in the corner. Earths moon with added to balance the design towards the center with the Sun being in the corner. ~~I know this makes it inconsistent just shut up it looks nice.~~

Elegant was raised primarily by Madame Lusine within the Blooming Rose. Her mother was a sex worker who had given birth to her in one of the back rooms of the brothel and later died of childbed fever. Lusine took charge of the girl and later cited the loss of her mother as well as the costs of keeping and training her as part of the ‘debt’ owed to her by Elegant. As part of a ploy to have her become mistress to one of Kirkwall’s powerful players and thus put Lusine in closer proximity to power than she already was, she had Elegant instructed in dancing and music, as well as recitation.

Elegant sells more than just healing potions, those are just the most relevant to Hawke. She also provides cosmetics, abortives, fertility tonics, and - if you’ve the right phrase - a nigh undetectable poison.

Elegant's husband is killed in the siege at the end of Act II, and she inherits everything. In spite of it being rumored that it was no love match, Elegant still enters the polite period of mourning - even longer, in fact. The more gossip-y among those in Hightown claim she's being dramatic, but she does genuinely miss him. I think you'd hear her comment about how empty the house feels. She begins holding numerous parties during Act III, inviting Hawke + company along with a number of other dignitaries, in some vain hope of finding a middle ground between the growing factions of Kirkwall.

i won’t force this on any hawke but i have thoughts about how hawke helped elegant during their indenture, have some messy bullet points:

elegant, then a courtesan, was in the employ of a very wealthy heir of some dwarven carta family. it was good money, but the contract was stifling - not to mention the company in many instances.

she met her future husband, a similarly wealthy minor orlesian lord who had come to kirkwall to do business, during this contract.

usually she was at her leisure, by this point the men she worked for were usually easily handled when it was time to move on - not so with this one. he refused to break the contract and even made threats against her and her love. credible ones, in fact, as the next night her lover was beaten up - nearly to death.

elegant got to work: if hawke is with the red iron, she hires them to scare her current employer - not to kill, she isn’t trying to get on that bad of a side with the carta. beat him up, get a signature, toss him on some boat back to daddy. if hawke is with athenril, she hires athenril’s people to source a rare poisonous plant that she can use in her capacity as an amateur chemist to mix something … unpleasant. again, not to kill. but unpleasant enough.

whatever scheme it is, it works, and she marries her lover and becomes lady elegant.
