          He doesn’t express surprise, but her tone is defensive as if he had. She hesitates for a moment as if gathering her thoughts, although there was little to gather --- Of course  she would go back for him. Of course  she would fight tooth and nail to ensure his safety, if she could help it (and of course  this may be perceived as some sense of inferiority, deeming his title as more significant than hers, the one who pruned the tree... Of course  , it was probably better that they think this). Of course  she would cut down one, three, five, fifteen, a hundred opponents if it meant she cleared a path for him --- for someone as lethal as her, it was more akin to gracefully  flexing  her fingers. 

          She hesitates for a moment as if gathering her thoughts, but in truth, she was attempting to condense them --- to  disfigure  her emotions until they were mere traces of her actual impulses.

To find a ninja in broad daylight was strange-- since if she remembers correctly, are they supposed to be be secretive? The equivalent of assassins for Noxus. Though to have a ninja approach you was stranger. She knows that she has no business-- nor affiliation with them so she can’t help but wonder what the man’s intention was.

Chewing on her bottom lip, she does not mutter a ‘hello’ but a simple --

       “ —  State your business.”

Towards him. Of course she could really afford to be less hostile, but -- that was never really an option at the first place.

          How many times had she demanded the very same of him --- in every way but her voice ? 

          There is a delicacy just beneath her needling tone --- when it came to Shen, there was always a hint of delicacy (for whose benefit, it was hard to say). Even so, her wry humor was lacking, and there was an uncharacteristic slump to her otherwise poised posture; 

                                     ( This slump was difficult to see                                        unless one was looking for it ---                                        this slump was far too steep for                                        a woman so young, so proud, so                                        graceful --- this slump was bearing                                        the brunt of a hundred memories of                                        things that once were, a thousand                                         voices so  VIOLENTLY  silenced,                                        and a  million  phrases left unspoken.                                         This slump was a familiar weight for                                        those well-versed in  shadows  . )

          Ah, perhaps she is just tired...

          Perhaps he wasn’t the one she was hiding from, after all.

The One who Watches || Closed RP with elegant-equilibrium

It wasn’t often that she had opportunities to leave the Kumungu jungles, and much less so that she travelled. The torrential rains in the south of Runeterra heralded the start of the monsoon season, a time when poachers and treasurehunters usually stayed away from desecrating her home. It was these times that she was able to take a break from her routine of waking up, patrolling, hunting, patrolling more, then going back to sleep.

The rains would not leave for the next month or so, giving her ample time to travel away from her home, even just for a little while. Within days she found herself on a boat towards Ionia, a large island off the coast of the mainland. Within hours she found herself strolling along the piers, taking in the sights and smells of the sea port.

Her dressing made her stand out, obviously; a simple band around her chest and a loincloth made from soft deerskin was not what the common Ionian wore. Her spear glinted in the sunlight, keeping hands away, though prying eyes were glued to her back. She’d become used to the sensation over the course of her many travels. Although, there was a different feeling when someone wasn’t watching her to fuel their own imagination.

Arduinna, the aspect of Kumungu that the huntress hosted, urged her to turn around, and she came face to face with the one known as the Eye of Twilight. “Shen,” She greeted, bowing her head in respect.

One hand clenched around the sheathe of his blade, and the other at its hilt; weapon at the ready. The ronin held his gaze narrowed, nothing of his tense posture welcoming chatter. “I’ll only say it once. Scurry back to your shadows, ninja.”

Ionia was a beautiful land, nearly unrivaled by any other place in all of Runeterra in terms of natural beauty. Nature was revered and preserved rather than crushed and quartered, and that in and of itself helped foster a sense of tranquility that brought peace to all those who dwelt on its soil.

And yet, when Riven stepped off the boat and took a look around at the land surrounding her, all she could feel was a suffocating sense of dread that hung heavy within her heart. Years had passed and the land had healed; it looked almost nothing like what she remembered, and the images that were burned to the surface of her eyes and the deepest crevices of her mind looked like poorly fabricated lies.

(Oh, but what she wouldn't give for that to be true.)

With deep, slow breaths, Riven advanced, taking lingering glances of the scenery as she pushed onwards. How different it was now; years later, she still remembered how she marched at the head of a full company, her sword whole and strong as she led her men with pride. Where had it all gone?

(Down, down, down--all beneath the ground, beneath bloodied soil and foreign chemicals and the corpses of men who would never be remembered.)

It certainly hadn't felt like she'd walked long, but by the time the sun began its slow descent beyond the distant mountaintops, the Exile found herself nearing the entrance of a forest. It wasn't entirely unfamiliar; this part of Ionia had changed little, and she vaguely remembered glancing over a map that had marked this very forest with a red flag.

There is something threatening here. A temple. Be cautious.

"...Hm."

Quietly, Riven looked around. She still saw nothing--heard nothing, felt nothing. Perhaps whatever danger had supposedly lurked here had died...

(A rustle, brief and silent--)

...or perhaps not.

"Who's there?"

Send me a (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ with a Champion name after it and I will tell you my headcanons for my muse’s relationship with them

man I wish I could English a little better to describe what I’m thinking rn but I can’t so let me just. Blab out this scenario okay because though it’ll take a fair amount of development, I can kinda see them becoming like:

"You’ve returned," Shen notes, and though his tone is even and betrays not even a modicum of what he’s feeling—if anything at all—Riven finds an unlikely sort of comfort in the deep intones of his voice. He does not judge her, nor does he absolve her of her crimes. He simply speaks to her as she stands, and that is enough to keep her grounded in the present.

For some, it’s not entirely a pleasant feeling. For Riven, it’s the breath of fresh air she’s forgotten to take for years.

"My men are here," Riven replies, but it’s the same thing she’s been saying for the past year since she first stepped foot on Ionia again. It isn’t necessarily false; there is no grave for Fury Company, and she’s half convinced that she’s the only one left who remembers them as anything other than a number or brutal monsters. Coeur Valley has healed over, but the absence of her men has not. She both mourns and pays her respects on the land that looks to have forgotten their lives, too.

But that isn’t the only reason she returns every few months to the island she so thoroughly wronged—and Shen knows.
