SOMEONE ON TWT PUT KLK NEXT TO ZOOPHILIA IN A "STAY AWAY FROM PROSHIPPERS" POST
And I'm??? How are those two comparable in any way shape or form
it never fails to concern me that so many people these days either feel so cornered by their peers or feel obligated to corner their peers into this elaborate system of following rules to indicate a status of "good-person-hood", most of which are constantly changing and trapping people in an endless state of "not good enough" unless they verbally condemn the bad thing of the week, unless they openly berate the bad person of the week, unless they conform so completely to these ever-changing standards. it breaks my heart to see some people slip into this environment and end up so deeply entrenched that digging down feels like the only way to escape
because the reality is that there are a number of people who do exactly what you just mentioned, but may not feel that these two are remotely of the same severity, or may not feel that way upon closer examination. but they do understand that openly stating that they find those things unequal (or even questioning the comparison) paints a target on their back - and they've seen firsthand what happens to the people with targets painted on their back
it's a cycle of fear and need for belonging (the latter often comes before the former) and it can be hard to break - nobody wants to feel othered, nobody wants to be harmed for suggesting that an Immutable Truth might be mutable or untrue
there's a painful propagation of a black and white view, where everything is either Good or Bad, and if it's even a little bit Bad, it's relegated to completely and irrevocably Bad. engaging, then, with the Bad thing either assumes that you are also Bad, or that you might become Bad by virtue of exposure to the Bad thing
the particularly concerning thing about this is...manyfold. but one of the pieces that strikes me as especially worrisome is the resolute belief that engaging with imperfect stories or ideas will skew a person's idea of what, in the real world, is an acceptable or moral way to behave
i have...a lot of feelings about this situation as a whole, the people trapped and propagating this culture of harming others in some attempt to keep them 'in line' and 'morally good', but i don't think i'd ever shut up about it if i really got started so i'll leave it at this: i hope that anyone who feels trapped, who questions the beliefs pressed upon them (or the ones they've held up to this point), anyone who might wonder if they're as right as they once thought, who begins to regret actions of harming others in defense of their beliefs...i hope you find your way to kinder waters
