Element4l is an experimental, uh... physics puzzle platform... thing. I don’t really know how exactly to describe it. You move by transforming into four different elemental forms that each interact with the world in different ways. There are also four worlds with four stages each. Yeah, this game likes the number four.
Ice is the closest thing to a “default” form this game has, since it costs no energy to shift to. You switch to ice form by hitting left. It doesn’t have any momentum on its own, but can slide across surfaces easily. Ice also floats in water, as seen above.
You turn into a stone by pressing down. In stone form you fall faster, can break certain walls, and sink in water. There are some points where you can plug up a geyser as a stone, causing the pressure to build and send you flying.
Pressing up transforms you into an air bubble. You float upward in this form, and can ride air currents. A trick you end up using a lot here is sinking to the bottom of the water as a stone, then turning into air to rise to the top quickly and build up a lot of speed. You pop if you touch the ground or a wall though, so it pays to be careful.
Finally, we have fire form which you turn into by pressing right. The fire launches you forward, but you explode if you hit the ground or a wall, like in air form. And using it in the water will just extinguish you immediately. A good way to get through long straightaways is to use fire to build up speed, then quickly shift to ice as you hit the ground to conserve momentum. Still, this element ends up being the least used in this area.
By combining all four elements well, you can get through these snowy mountains and waterfalls, and collect the four soul fragments you need to create a mind. After that, it’s off to other lands to find the other ingredients required for life. It’s a rather abstract and weird game.
