India And Online Learning

E-learning was taking up space in the Indian industry over time. The video lectures and online mock tests were somewhat limited to higher course preparation and higher studies. However, now looking at the situation, E-learning has brought about changes in the education system of India in total. 

As the pandemic took over the country, schools and colleges were shut down due to safety reasons. This was the time when online learning took the space. Here are a few points showing the change in education today.

Over 78% of students in India are using smartphone to study.

There are colleges taking semester examination through online platforms like AMCAT. 

School going kids from classes 1 or even lower are using the online medium to study. 

There are online study material for classes 1 to 12 available on many education portals like Buytestseries. 

*Over 1.6 billion across the globe are not going to school amidst the lockdown.

But the thing is there are almost 27% of students as per a survey by NCERT who are not privileged enough to study online.  How is the government going to deal with this? In between many debates o the topic there are still many who were able to continue their education and that was due to these online platforms in India.

Prof. Philip Dowell, Senate Member, Royal College of Surgeons of England, conducts workshop at Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital in Chennai, India Dr. SM Balaji organized an international workshop on “E Learning with International Virtual Dental School” at Balaji Dental and Craniofacial Hospital in Chennai, India. A team of 12 international specialists from the UK led by Prof. Philip Dowell, Professor of Periodontology, University of Surrey and University of Wales attended the workshop. Prof. Dowell who is also the President of the British Society of Periodontology and Past President of the International College of Dentists, spoke about the modalities of specialist training in the UK through the International Virtual Dental School that uses problem based learning to provide skill enhancing competencies to specialist trainees. Dr. SM Balaji spoke about the advantages of introducing this innovative method of learning in Indian dental colleges.
