1. Never ever, ever, ever compare yourself with other people. You are you. Don't use others as a mold for your own life, your own loves, and your own happiness. Create that yourself. 2. If a song makes you smile, and I mean really smile, smile without trying to, play it on repeat, play it everyday all the time, and hold onto that smile. A smile is hope in physical form. 3. Don't forget to breathe. Life is a roller coaster and sometimes it knocks the breath out of you. Take time to catch up with the life inside you. 4. Share your experiences with someone. Learn how to describe how the wind felt in your hair, how the stars glistened in your eyes, how the complexities of the universe make you feel so tiny and yet woven together with such love, like an infant's sweater. 5. Remember the love you were created out of and how the people in your life love you so much. Love them back. 6. Never pass up an opportunity to say hello to someone or tell them their shirts inside out, or that they've got something in their teeth. Speak gently and with a smile, even if you don't feel like it. 7. Wake up and kick that day in the ass. You're breaking your record for most days alive; celebrate being alive for one more day. 8. Go out and stare at the ocean or at the sky at night or the forest from a cliff. Paint it, photograph it, sketch it, remember it. Keep wonder alive in your eyes. 9. Open the window more often. Sit in your room and hear the birds, the people passing, the breeze ruffling the leaves of the trees. Remind yourself that there are so many different things out there. 10. Ask for help. No body can do it all alone. Remember that you don't have to have it all together all the time. This does not determine your worth. Ask and receive help; this will help you to give it, too. 11. Don't ever give up. Keep going. Keep pushing on. Things won't be happy all the time, not at all, but the moments when you understand how important you are and how many people love you and that you have a purpose in this crazy messed up world, are the moments when you find the strength to keep the darkness at bay.
