i.       Yes, I do think that you should be able to study whatever you’d like, despite whatever race you are. No, it is not something that I can outright support, not right now. 

You never said that it would be easy because lying out right to the people that you are meant to protect is not something that you like to do on a daily basis. You will stand your ground on occasion, making sure to keep it clear that the people that are under your protection, studying under your patronage are safe because something bad will happen if anyone dares to step in your way. It was still a matter of choosing your own battles, who could you take down or not in a foot to foot battle? Who you couldn’t. The thing is that those that are still learning or not interested in politics at all do not pay attention to the words that you so carefully chose to give to them. You do not outright support it, but you do nonetheless. You will make it work, you always do one way or another. You just can’t do it publicly but that was never an issue for you.

ii.       Yes, I do wish that you could go by yourself wherever you wished to go. No, I will not allow you to.

It is not easy to say no, and you know this because you hate it when people say no to you. You are the type of person that will give whoever said ‘no’ to you the middle finger and immediately find a way to get whatever you like even if it is behind their back. Even if you do not want it anymore, you will find a way to get it just to spite the other person. It is not a healthy thing to do, but it is the reality of things. You know that it will be the same thing for Elgar’len, you understand his rage and it makes you sick to think that these people are bound to follow your rules. Were you another person you could legally punish harshly them for now following your orders. You are not that sort of person, the only reason why you would ever order anything it’s when you are afraid. What would anyone do to him if they saw him walking around alone, who might think it was a good idea to meddle with the people that you protect simply to get back at you? Cato does say that you are paranoid and that it is a good thing. 

Right now, it doesn’t feel like a good thing.

iii.        Yes, I do understand how alone you feel. No, I don’t want to talk about it.

You know loneliness and not belonging better than most people that surround you. You also know how to keep it hidden away with a pretty smile and one ( or two, or three or four… ) glasses of wine. If you always have company on your bed that means that you cannot feel alone right? You do not speak about it but it gets to your nerves after so many times of being accused of not understanding what it was to be in his position. The woman that gave birth to you knew, you saw the marks of that life even after years of leaving, you have felt her anger on your body without so much of a whimper, only tear trails to show to the world as evidence. You do not know how to reply to such a thing without lightning forming on your hands and without turning away. There is nothing to say.

iv.        Yes, I know how angry you feel. No, I will never show it to you, please stop taunting me about it.

You hold your anger with both fists closed and with you teeth on your tongue, you have always hold it with a strength that can be compared to that of Atlas. You are so angry that sometimes you cannot speak, you are so angry that you do not want to speak. There is always a nightmare, a ferociousness thunderstorm raging in your chest that is always kept close to your chest, held only by your will. You do not show it, not even to him, no one there deserves her anger even if they are themselves angry at the world.

You always preferred to be the one to leave first, but this time you know that it is different. You might not have grown roots to the place that you were born in, but you have a duty to it that surpasses your anger and your pain.

Atreion tends to be fairly mellow about most activities, but anything Chantry-based he avoids like the plague. He will not attend a service, he will not tolerate being preached to, and he has no intention whatsoever in going along with the Chantry’s hypocritical worship of him. He finds it unbelievably insulting, especially after their continuing treatment of his kind and erasure of them from Chantry records. If they won’t treat his people with respect, then he has no intention of going along with their bullshit.
