The exceedingly kind eliapolis​ tagged me in a question meme, and it made me remember that about a hundred years ago, somebody else tagged me and now I’ve forgotten who. (Whom?) I suck at life. Sorry. :(

My pick of the questions:

1. Describe the most memorable meal you’ve ever had: A few years ago, we traveled to Philadelphia for a relative’s wedding. It was our first time in the area, and a rare kid-free weekend. In the wedding paperwork, they recommended Tamarindos, a Mexican restaurant outside the city, so we gave it a try with no real expectations. We both really enjoyed our meals, and the real bonus: they give free (bottomless!) margaritas with your meal. YUM.

2. Do you read or write fanfiction? If so what kind? Ohhh yeah I do! I started reading Superman/Lois & Clark fanfiction almost 20 years ago (YIKES), and recently rediscovered how awesome it is again thanks to meggie-mellark. But Everlark fanfic is my bread & butter (no pun intended!) I spend way too much time reading it, and I’ve been writing it - ever so slowly - for a few years now.

3. What’s one book you’d recommend to everyone? Besides all the classics (To Kill a Mockingbird) and obvious ones (THG), I guess I’d say Colony by Anne Rivers Siddons. I absolutely loved that book, and I figure if I keep recommending it to everyone, eventually someone else will read it and I’ll have someone to talk to.

4. Who is the character you most identify with? Our circumstances are quite different, but I really identified with Benny Hogan in Circle of Friends.

5. What music are you listening to right now?  I have on my instrumental playlist as a way to help me focus on my writing (CLEARLY not working.) The current song is The Tour from Catching Fire.

6. Are you a late sleeper or an early riser? Late, late, late. I want to be a different kind of person. I want to not feel most productive and inspired at 1 AM. I want to jump out of bed at 6 AM and be ready to tackle the day. But instead, my body clock wants me to go to bed at 2 AM and get up at 9. NOT practical when you have a full time job and a family that depends on you. (See: sucks at life.)

7. If you could tell your 15 year old self something, what would you say? “As much as you think so, you will not be alone forever. I promise you. Also, try to experience some of the high school life outside the classroom. Go to a sports game. Attend a dance. Leave your bedroom once in a while. You’ll regret not doing that someday.”

8. Tell me your favorite color in the style of Peeta Mellark. A rich, royal purple mixed with shades of blue; the color of the sky in that brief moment between the sun going down and the stars coming out.

9. What was your favorite thing to play when you were 7 years old? “School” or “House”.

10. Where do you stack dirty dishes?  Everywhere. Usually our sink is full and the dishwasher is running, so on the counter around the sink, mainly. Despite the years of practicing (see #9) I’m terrible at keeping house. (See also: sucks at life.)

11.  When you’re trying to get something done, what is your #1 distraction? You’re looking at it. I signed onto my laptop to do some writing, and what am I doing instead? Damn Tumblr. Arggghhh.

I’m just being overdramatic I guess. I’ve been completing my medical school secondary applications slower than I anticipated and now I’m like a week behind schedule and just uggggggghhhhh

Ahh, love Their Eyes Were Watching God. And that youtube post - hilarious – my kids used to be so into those, and I sorta kinda get the evantube fascination, but mine also used to be equally riveted by this German guy who spoke in a monotone

I would make a point of including Their Eyes Were Watching God in my US history curriculum so that my students knew of the book, even if they didn’t read it in English class. So damn good.

What is evantube? Actually, no, don’t tell me. I don’t want to give my kid any ideas ;)  But seriously, I have no idea what makes all those toy unboxing/surprise egg/whatever videos so damn appealing. It’s like crack for preschoolers, I swear...I have to limit him to “one Paw Patrol playset video per day” (and then he tries to cheat by switching to a new video before the one he’s watching ends, and oh, just, ugh). It’s the worst. /end rant
