Hello! Is it okay if I request a scenario (or headcanon, whatever works!) of Jotaro, Kakyoin, and reader trying out spicy food while they are on the fifty-day trip? Like how would the two act when they see (y/n) struggling with the spice.
omg... this is such a cute request, I love it!! I combined a scenario with headcanons soooo... here you go!:
❥ ┋ ❝ jotaro & kakyoin helping the reader with spicy food!
Jotaro narrows his eyes the moment you order the spicy chicken curry. the Crusaders had only been traveling for a few days at this point; being so early in the trip, he’s concerned that you might get food poisoning from the dish. but it’s one of those rare moments of quiet, and considering you had a knack for street food, it really isn’t his business to intervene, anyway.
↳ “I’m not going to take care of you if you get sick.” his words are straightforward yet biting. you know that he’s telling the truth. but even still, you reassure him:
“pfft, it’s fine! I got this!”
the dish is creamy and tangy, with striking bitter notes from the lemon juice. the cilantro helps even it out, and with the jasmine rice, you can hardly taste the spice!
Jotaro watches you intensely. he meant what he said. or at least partially. if you got sick, he wouldn’t hear the end of it from Joseph. so for now, you’re his responsibility.
↳ “hey. slow down. you’re going to give yourself heartburn.”
you wave your hand dismissively. it’s fine!
as if all at once, the spices conspire against your tongue. your whole mouth feels as if it’s on fire. what was once a delicious, zesty dish has suddenly turned into the menace Jotaro warned you it’d be.
he can immediately tell that you’re struggling. maybe it’s the tears budding at your eyes, maybe it’s your suddenly red face. either way, he scrunches his nose and rolls his eyes, muttering his signature “good grief” under his breath.
Jotaro leaves for a moment. great. you can’t really get mad, though; he did say that if you got sick, he wouldn’t take care of you.
the curry burns, and all you can feel on your tongue now is heat. you try to quench the pain by drinking water though it doesn’t help. you can’t eat your jasmine rice since it’s covered in curry sauce. you frantically look for Jotaro. god. where is he? he wouldn’t abandon you, would he?
at last, he returns with a loaf of bread. he must have purchased it from a nearby vendor.
↳ “here. it’ll help clear the oils from your mouth.”
you swipe his loaf of bread, inhaling it to find some sort of relief. and you do, after eleven or so mouthfuls. the pain hasn’t completely subsided but at least it’s more manageable. when Jotaro notices you relax, he slides you your water.
↳ “drink something. you need to cool down.”
overall, he’s unconcerned with your condition. while you’re surprised he helped at all, you’re thankful that he intervened. he remains calm after the fact, continuously checking to make sure that you’re okay (though you can’t tell if that’s from genuine concern or his trying to avoid Joseph’s scolding).
he’ll bring it up whenever you try to eat something spicy later in the trip, both in jest and in annoyance. so much for trying new food...
Kakyoin turns to you, eyebrows knitted, when you tell the vendor you want spicy chicken curry. he’s a lot more concerned than Jotaro; are you sure you want to engage in something like this here? now? the Crusaders are so early in their trip still. he wants you to loosen up -- after all, they were tracking down a decades-old vampire -- but he doubts your judgement.
↳ “are you sure you want to have something like that now? why not try something else?”
“but I’ve never tried curry before! don’t worry, I can handle it.”
although he’s uncertain, he won’t push you on it. he doesn’t want to patronize you. still, he wants to keep a close eye on you in case you get sick.
the chicken is so, so tender. it almost melts in your mouth the moment you start eating. it compliments the fragrant jasmine rice so well that you can hardly taste any spice!
Kakyoin watches you with careful eyes. your getting sick would be detrimental to the group. he doesn’t want you to get left behind, but they can’t risk slowing down because of you...
↳ “ don’t feel obligated to finish the dish. we can always take it back to the hotel.”
you shake your head. it’s fine!
you start huffing. oh my god. wow. jesus, this hurts. Kakyoin takes notice immediately, his eyes widening at your face.
↳ “ here! take this, I’m going to find something to help you!”
he slides his nilgiri tea to you while he stands up from the table, scurrying off to find some treatment.
although the tea is hot and burns your mouth when you drink it, the honey immediately soothes the pain. you’re not sure if Kakyoin actually knew this or if he gave you his drink in a weak attempt to help.
when he returns, you’ve already calmed down. still, he has a paper bag filled with milk, yogurt, and a pineapple -- remedies for your torment, you assume.
Kakyoin is frantic at first, but at seeing your face, his own expression softens. it’s easy to see that he’s relieved.
↳ “ well. at least we have all these things if you wanted to keep eating.”
in summary, he treats your pain like a serious issue. it might have just been the effects of a spicy curry dish, but you’re his friend and he cares about you. this is evident every time that he checks up on you after the fact.
whenever you try to eat something spicy later in the trip, Kakyoin will put his hand on your shoulder and shake his head. so much for being able to handle the spice...
