I've just read this lovely story from 2016, I don't know how it got past me until now. The Trevor's has evolved from Ella Quinn's The Marriage Game series. Our hero is a younger brother of Hawksworth, from Miss Featherton's Christmas Prince. As it's one of my favorite books, missing the trail of Hawksworth's family was a boo-boo on my part. I'm determined to catch up.
Our hero is Quartus Trevor, younger son of the Duke of Somerset. The Duke got lazy and started naming his children Latin numbers, Quartus is four. As are all the Trevor's, Quartus is very good looking and easy going. It's amazing how such an awful Duke managed to have lovely, sweet progenies. Q has just resigned his position as vicar in one of his father's keeps. He doesn't mind being a vicar, he just feels there's more out there for him. His first action is to spend the season in London with his brother, Hawksworth. The Duke is angry, of course, as Q is not doing what he wants him to.
At the first ball of the season Q meets Anna Calder, newly named Duchess of Wharton. There were actually a few women who were Duchesses in their own right. When the Duchess died the title was not passed on, only men could do that. Anna has come from Tortola, with her father, and is learning how to handle her new responsibilities. She's come to understand that a husband by her side, and not lording over her, is what she needs. Q is going to fit the bill beautifully. A younger son with no big title, broke and enlightened about women's roles in life.
The Duke of Somerset has arranged a marriage for Q and tells him what needs to be done. How it works out is an interesting caper and involves other characters from the Marriage Game series. It uses one of my favorite words, clodpole, and a visit to see the Elgin Marbles. Everyone sees the marbles, it must have been quite an outing.
Anna's castle is a doozy and is described as dreamy. I'd marry her for that alone. I hope you enjoy the journey and the Trevor family. Happy reading.
