Anon: Wait could you maybe explain to me, because I’m a newbie to f1, what all has Mazepin done? ---------------------------------------- hey Anons! hope you don’t mind that I’m answering these questions at once, as they’re very similar. this is why people dislike Mazepin: - back in 2016, he got banned from F3 for punching Callum Ilott in the face because Callum apparently ‘got in his way’. Mazepin didn’t attack him once, but twice. people separated them but Mazepin just attacked Callum again. Callum ended up with a black eye, a swollen jaw and had cuts to his cheek and neck. - here’s a screenshot of Mazepin telling George Russell to “come out of the closet”. this is from back when Callum Ilott and Mick Schumacher were supposed to drive in FP1 at the German Grand Prix, so about two months ago. maybe Mazepin was annoyed he didn’t he didn’t get that opportunity, but to either out someone or make an extremely unfunny ‘joke’ is disgusting to me. - this year at Spa, he was fighting with Yuki Tsunoda, when Mazepin pushed Tsunoda off the track after the tried to regain the lead. for the incident, Mazepin received a 5 second time penalty, giving Tsunoda the win and taking it away from Mazepin. annoyed with this, Mazepin purposely knocked the P2 sign directly into Tsunoda’s path. here’s the video:

- apparently he tried to pressure a girl into sending nudes and then got angry when she didn’t

- a lot of people dislike Mazepin for being a paid driver and a lot of people will argue that that’s a hypocritical statement because Lance is too. but, there’s a slight difference. Lance won the Italian F4 as a rookie, the Toyota Racing Series as a rookie and the F3 championship in his second year. he was also in the Ferrari Driver Academy before his promotion to F1. Mazepin has never won a junior series championship. he has never been in a F1 junior team where his dad has not been linked with buying the team.

hii!! i was wondering what do u think we can expect from mclaren and their switch to a merc engine next year? obviously the merc engine is currently the best (..ignoring those last two races), but do you think the car will adapt to the engine, especially because they only have two tokens to use to upgrade their car to fit the new engine? could '21 be a "stabilizing" year?

hey there! as this question is more on the technical side, I’m going to explain it a little bit for anyone who is confused by this question and then I’ll end it with my thoughts!!

basically, there were supposed to be regulation changes going into 2021, but due to the pandemic they postponed that (to keep costs down for the teams). this means that all the chassis designs will be the same next year as they were this year, apart from a few small surface-area aerodynamics that are allowed to be improved. and in order to regulate what the teams change; a token system has been introduced. at the beginning of the 2020 season, components of the car were split into two groups based on when the homologation needs to be frozen (homologation = the procedure that a part must undergo in order to participate in the championship). so for example, some parts need to be frozen by the first round of the season and some parts need to be frozen by the eight round. and once the homologation is frozen, those parts can only be updated between that date and the end of the 2021 season using two tokens. some homologated components have a value of one token, which means they can be updated twice. bigger components (e.g., the rear suspension) have been assigned a value of two tokens, which means that the teams can only make one change.

what this means for McLaren is that they have a problem, because changing to the Mercedes engine means that they have to make changes in order to fit the power unit into the car and on top of that, they will also have to redesign their rear suspension components. what McLaren did to prevent running out of tokens, is change as many things as possible before they were homologated (such as the new front structure they have since Russia). but the most important change they’ll have to make going into 2021 is the fact that the bodywork will have to be changed in order to supply the correct amount of cooling for the Mercedes components. however, the Renault and Honda powered teams prefer to place some of the cooling components above the engine intake. this results in a bigger engine cover but allows the sidepods to become more tightly packaged. Mercedes and Racing Point don’t do this, but Williams does do this. so in that way, McLaren may be able to continue without too many changes.

and now onto my thoughts; personally I think they’ll be fine. I think what they have done so far in order to prevent running out of tokens has been really smart and I suspect they’ll end up solving the cooling issue in the way Williams has done. we’ve seen this year that the McLaren is a very good car and I personally think they’ll continue to improve next year. maybe in the beginning we’ll see a few problems, but I suspect there will be an upward trend in their results throughout the season. the Mercedes engine is very reliable and I personally think a few podiums are possible and possibly even a win (if something happens to both the Mercedes cars). I am very optimistic about it!!

Heyy, I was thinking about Lando and I wanted to ask u what is your thoughts about his future? Usually drivers change their teams in their careers, but what about him, he is already in pretty good team but do you think he will stay with Mclaren for a long time? Everyone knows that for example George will go to Mercedes one day and will try to take win, but I interested what’s your opinion about his future. You watch f1 longer than me and u have more knowledge I would really love to hear what do you think. Do you think he could be world champion or drive for other team?

hey Anon!! good question, this is something I’ve actually thought a lot about, but I’ve never really shared my thoughts on. do I think Lando will ever become a world champion? well, to be honest, not if his driving remains like this. not that he’s done bad this year, he absolutely hasn’t. I’ve actually been awestruck at how big the difference was between last year and this year and how much he has improved since his rookie year. he’s good, but he’s not ready to become a world champion in a few years’ time. when I look at George, I can imagine him to become a world champion in two years. with Lando, I definitely don’t have that feeling. Lando has a lot to learn when it comes to strategy, overtaking and composure. his good results depend on being lucky a little bit too often, which is fine for now, but not for in the future. as of this year, Carlos did better than Lando almost every weekend. however, I personally wouldn’t necessarily say Carlos is the best driver on the grid. he’s very talented and definitely not one of the worst, but if you would put him next to Lewis or George or Max, he wouldn’t win from them. he’s definitely not somebody that I would look at and say “oh, he’s championship-material”. Carlos beating him and Daniel probably beating him next year is not necessarily a bad thing, though. Lando needs his teammate to push him in order to become a better driver. and as he’s learnt a lot from Carlos, I think he can learn even more from Daniel. Daniel is a very complete driver, who does incredible overtakes, is extremely consistent and has experience with winning races. in contrary to Carlos, Daniel is definitely championship-material in my opinion. it honestly wouldn’t surprise me if Daniel would win a race next year, considering McLaren will be quicker due to their Mercedes engine. so while I truly think Daniel is not only the right choice for McLaren, I also think he’s the perfect teammate for Lando. Daniel is somebody he can learn so much from, while also feeling comfortable while being around him, something that is probably also important to Lando. I do think Lando will stay at McLaren for a long time. however, if he doesn’t continue to improve and his results stagnate, I can see him being dropped in two years and move on to a team that is the opposite of a top team. that may sound a bit harsh, but when I look at his driving in an objective way, that’s the only conclusion I can come up with. so now let’s look at a more positive scenario; what if Lando improves a lot and McLaren will also continue to improve, will he be able to win a championship then? I think so. I think we are in for a good fight at the top between Lando, Max and George in five years’ time. and I cannot wait.

Hiii Elle, question; Williams has a Merc engine but they’re one of the slowest teams on the grid while McLaren is very fast. How is that possible?

hey anon! that’s a very understandable question!!

basically, the Williams chassis is just fundamentally flawed. the car has several concept mistakes and Williams are having a hard time to fix those mistakes.

the airflow is completely obscured, meaning the car is losing a lot of downforce. if a car has less downforce, it means that the car isn’t pushed down to the track as much, meaning it’ll lose speed and also, stability. the balance of the car is actually terrible as a whole, which makes it incredibly hard to drive as issues such as understeer and oversteer arise when a car has terrible balance.  the main problem that comes into play with this issue is, of course: money. the Williams team has way less money than a team like Mercedes, while these issues Williams are having are extremely expensive to fix. adding to that, to fix such huge issues is incredibly time consuming. meaning that at the moment, they are only able to make a few small steps each year. while the other teams around them are developing and probably in a higher tempo as they have more money, Williams will remain last until they have the money to fix it or other teams make such a huge mistake while designing the car that there are last, instead of Williams. so, basically: the chassis is just extremely flawed. when you look at the straight line speed the car has, it’s okay. but to only have okay straight line speed, it’s just not going to cut it and that’s why the Williams will remain at the back of the grid until they get more money to fix the issues.
