10 Extraordinary Women in Fashion

In honor of International Women's Day I have put together a list of 10 extraordinary women in fashion. These women are trailblazers who have changed the world of fashion with their wonderful and exquisite talents. I know that there is more than 10 women who have made an impact on the fashion but I couldn’t include all of those wonderful women in one post

Donatella Versace is an Italian fashion designer who is rose to fame by her well known Green Versace Dress also known as the "Jungle Dress” worn by Jennifer Lopez at the 43rd Grammy’s in 2000. Donatella owns the world famous brand Versace, which she took over after the death of her brother fashion designer, Gianni Versace, who was murder outside of his Miami home. She has made Versace a household name in the fashion world, and she is a feminist who believes in equality for both women and man.

Carolina Herrera is a Venezuelan fashion designer who is well known for dressing First Ladies, including Michelle Obama, Jaqueline Kennedy and Lauren Bush. Carolina started her career in New York with her first collection that debuted at Manhattan's Metropolitan Club with high praises. Carolina has a unique style that has been called dramatic, her style has landed her on the International Best Dress list in 1972.

Donna Karan started her career in fashion working along side Anne Klein until she left Klein to start her own business in design modern clothes for modern people. Karan became well known for her 'Essentials' line, initially offering seven easy pieces centered around the bodysuit which could all be mixed and matched, and created a fully integrated wardrobe with her First Collection in 1985. In 1988, Karan, nicknamed The Queen Of Seventh Avenue, extended her women's 'Donna Karan New York' line by creating a less expensive clothing line for younger women, called DKNY. Donna role in fashion has decrease over the years but we can’t forget her hard work in creating clothes for modern women.

Vera Wang is an American designer of Chinese decent based in New York City. Wang is well known for her iconic wedding dresses, she has dressed many public figures in her famous wedding gowns and has dressed multiply stars for events like the Academy Awards and the Olympics. For seventeen years Wang was an editor at Vogue, she was the their youngest editor ever. Vera Wang has a lifetime of achievements that she made in fashion, and is mentioned a lot in popular culture.

Stella McCartney is an English designer who is the daughter of Linda McCartney and former Beatle Paul McCartney. Stella McCartney has come out of her famous dad shadow to create a name for herself in the fashion world. She has one of the most successful brands in the United Kingdom. Stella is a firm supporter of animal rights and uses her platform to promote animal-free alternatives in her work.

Miuccia Prada is an Italian fashion designer and business women, she owns the most successful and selling brand in Italy, Prada. Miuccia has grown Prada to be one of the biggest luxury fashion house in the world. In 2014 she was listed as the 75th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes. Miuccia Prada is an inspiration to all women that hard work is the key to a successful life.

Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen also known as the Olsen twins are former child actresses turned fashion designers. When they were teenagers their love for fashion started to grow at that age, they created clothing lines that would appeal to kids their age and younger. The Olsen twins have also launched their own couture fashion label, The Row, named after Savile Row in London. The twins have been declared a fashion icon, they have started trends that have become popular dubbing them as iconic in the fashion industry

Kate Spade was one of the many lives that we lost in 2018. Kate Spade is well known for her handbags which she was inspired to make after working at a magazine and noticing the lack of stylish and sensible handbags. Spade’s bags are often gifted to girls as their first official handbag, that first handbag that you held is something that stays with you for the rest of your life and that is what Kate Spade created, a coming of age bags for young girls, and stylish everyday purses women use in their daily lives.

Victoria Beckham is well known in the music industry as she was a part of a girl group, the Spice Girls, her transition to fashion has made her more famous as an individual. Victoria appearance in fashion started in the early 2000s when she would guest star in some fashion shows. In 2008 she launch her fashion label, in later years it grew to be a huge success, in which she dominated many fashion weeks and won numerous awards for her brand.

Lastly the Queen herself, Anna Wintour, she may not be a fashion designer like the other women but she is considered one of the most powerful and prominent figures in the fashion world. Anne Wintour is currently the editor-in-chief of Vogue, she is widely praised for her eye for fashion trends and her support for younger designers. Anna Wintour inspires me to work hard so I can be able to achieve a career in fashion journalism, she is mine and a lot of other women role model.
