Real talk: I always found Percy calling Annabeth "Wise Girl" in the books cringe. (And vice versa with Annabeth calling Percy "Seaweed Brain", but to a lesser extent.)
But the way Percy called Annabeth "Wise Girl" in this episode was very beautiful to me. The tone of voice, the context of the scene...my immediate thoughts were, "Dawww, Annabeth's hero is here. She is not alone." 🥹 And suddenly this phrase isn't cringe anymore.
And for Percy to follow that up with "You're my priority"???? I am SO loving the fact that Annabeth is getting ALL the affection!!!
Can we talk more about how very jealous Percy was acting/looking when Annabeth and Luke were talking by Iris message? Please? Because why did he feel the need to just hang up that message with the quickness like that??? 😭
I would love to make a longer post about this later, but something that caught my attention about the "relationship conflict" in Zootopia 2 (imo, so take with a grain of salt):
To Judy, solving the case was validation that she and Nick belonged together as partners (and possibly more). In the first ten minutes she tells Nick that they will both make the world a better place and that they are "not that different". On one hand, she seems to be in a bit of denial as to her and Nick's differences. On the other hand, she truly wants them to be together (fur-ever lol).
What really helped spur her determination was not only her personal morals, but also the lack of outward validation from Nick. The audience clearly sees that Nick adores her, but he doesn't outright tell her. He usually gives her sarcasm and chuckles and usually only follows along with her plans out of reluctance. Much of what Judy does seems in part to be motivated by "Nick doesn't care, but I'll make him care or prove that he does care, because if he cares about what I care about then that proves he cares about me."
So when Nick says he doesn't care about the case she took it as "he doesn't care about me. He doesn't care about what I believe in, so he doesn't care about me." Of course it was obvious that what Nick would've followed up that sentence with was "i care about you", but it wasn't obvious to Judy because as much as Nick is emotionally insecure, she is very very insecure as well.
And that's why Nick telling her that he cares about her and that she is the best thing that ever happened to him was so beautiful. She finally gets the validation she yearned from her partner for so long. She wants to be with him forever and care about her and she thought that they had to be "not that different" for that to happen. When actually...he could be different from her and still care about her. Both can be true. I'm sure it was both mind blowing and heart-melting. I don't blame her for being shocked speechless for a bit.
This is just so so beautiful 🥹
(also feel free to discuss further in the comments, I definitely get that I may have misinterpreted some things myself 😅)
(also also I still wanna make a post about the interracial couple subtext I kept getting from their interactions. "I don't care that we're different" ummmm?????)
So something about Zootopia 2 and some comments I've seen while lurking...
So I'm just a normie who watched Zootopia 2 on opening night and loved the movie so much I just watched it a 3rd time. I personally think its a solid sequel and definitely develops the beloved Hopps and Wilde from the first movie even more.
One thing I wasn't expecting though (esp since I only saw like...one trailer and one teaser) was the amount of SUBTEXT regarding Nick and Judy's relationship. Partnership. All of the above. 🤣 This movie was FILLED with it man. Wow!
But I saw some comments from ppl saying that this was a "slow burn" (either happily or angrily) and the more I think about it...the more I disagree.
Because technically this movie takes place a week after the first movie. And the end of the movie explicitly refers to it being their "two-week anniversary".
Think about it. Two weeks. Two weeks in and Nick is already telling Judy "you're the best thing that's ever happened to me" and "I care about you" and "you're my pack." And Judy is telling Nick that no one is more important to her than him. That he is her fluffle.
It took TWO WEEKS within them meeting (?) for them to do this. Y'all, I don't think this is a slow burn if we're getting technical 🤣🤣
So again, loved the movie, I definitely saw romantic subtext with those two goobers (and if I'm gonna be honest, interracial couple subtext too), and I'm just gonna go ahead and predict that the next movie will involve their struggles with moving in together and raising a baby bird together like the proud parents they disguised themselves as in this movie 🤣🤣🤣 Calling it here first!!!
EDIT: Thanks to @not-so-mundane-after-all I realize that the timeline may be a bit different from what I described. 🤔 Does anyone know how long it took for Nick to become a police officer? Because there may have been quite some time between Nick & Judy meeting and Nick becoming a cop...maybe one to two months? 🤔
EDIT 2: okay so according to additional feedback it was probably at least 6 months (or even more) since Nick and Judy met and Nick became a cop. I would say it was between 6 months and a year...🤔 Thanks for the info you guys!
So I read the books way back when and it's been years since I reread them, but I'm bringing this up because I see a lot of people responding to the "I thought it was a slow burn" folks that Percy is mostly oblivious to his feelings for Annabeth until The Last Olympian, and I honestly don't remember it that way 🤔
Now, I'm aware that Percy was kinda an Unreliable Narrator at times, but I remember him having the impression that Annabeth had a crush on/was in love with Luke.
Why? Because Annabeth kept talking about redeeming Luke throughout the books and insisting that he could be saved. In the siren scene in the books, Luke was in Annabeth's vision having a picnic with her family and getting along. Annabeth ended up holding the sky in the third book because Luke was "in danger", and then even after Percy rescued her she was insisting that Luke could be redeemed. And every time Percy tried to tell Annabeth that Luke was beyond saving her reaction was basically:
Since I was influenced by Percy's narration, by the time Rachel showed up and Annabeth was acting all jealous I was thinking "what you mad for?? Ain't you trying to save your boyfriend Luke?? 🤣"
My recollection was that Percy did know that he had feelings for Annabeth; but he kinda was oblivious to Annabeth feeling something for him that was more than friendship, and kinda didn't believe that she did because-- he believed she actually loved Luke. (And let's not get into the age difference here bc when I was reading the books I honestly didn't know who was what age besides Percy and Annabeth 😭) I mean he did feel guilty when she got mad at him for being stuck on Calypso's island.
So I dunno, am I not remembering things right? What do you say, book fans?
Putting this here for either wishful thinking or manifestation but--
I'm thinking that there may be a Zootopia short released in the future that will feature Nick and Judy going apartment hunting and moving in together (separate rooms of course, I highly doubt the director/writers will go that far 🤣) 🤔
The show is so engaging and inspiring that I reread The Titan's Curse for the first time in years and I am even more excited for what Season 3 will have in store for us all 🤩
Also, fun fact: The Titan's Curse was the very first Percy Jackson book I read. It was the most prominent copy of the series at my local library. I would always pass by it and not pick it up because I thought the cover looked weird.
Then one day I decided to actually read the synopsis on the back. It worked my interest a bit, so I skimmed through the inside of the book a little to see more. The first chapter my skimming landed on? The "dam" chapter 🤣🤣
After that I couldn't stop reading and ended up reading the whole book, then went back to the first one. It was awesome.
I think this was shortly before The Last Olympian was released. I remember buying that book when it came out 🤔
This series is wonderful and really making me go down memory lane 🥹
