Hi there. Today I've discovered a website to use in the class and rushed to my computer to share it. You may have heard or used it before.  Kahoot! is a website where you can create and play quizes, discussions or surveys. And it is so easy with a teacher computer, a projector and personal devices of/for your pupils. These devices include laptops, iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android, Chromebook, Windows Phone or PC and more... First, build a quiz which has an educational purpose via create.kahoot.it (You can also embed images or videos.)

Next, project the quiz onto the screen at the front. Make sure that all your pupils can see the screen because they won't see the question on their devices but only on the screen. 

Then, ask them to go on kahoot.it via their devices. They are supposed to type the game-pin provided by you which also appears on the screen when you launch it. Next, the pupils should type their names/nicknames. As they join in the quiz, their names will appear on the screen at front and they will see "You're In!" statement on their own screen.

Now, if you are sure that all the pupils are in, click on "Start now". They will see the questions and the options on the screen at front and they will choose the related option on their own devices. Time limit, score-graphics, fastest pupils... There are many features you should explore. 

  I have tried it to revise the vocabulary with my second graders today and they had great fun. Not a chaos but ethusiasm. That's what a teacher would like to see in class.

SCAMPER MODEL

SCAMPER is an acronym with each of the seven letters serving as the initial letter or word phrases that form an idea-spurring checklist. The checklist helps children develop their imagination provoking their minds with open-ended questions. Therefore, children can look for creative ideas that may lead to the solution of problems.

As we know, brainstorming technique by Alex Osborn was first heard in Applied Imagination (1953). Then, in 1990s, Bob Eberle came with this clever anagram SCAMPER.

First, state a problem. Then, use the seven areas above to encourage your students to challenge their thinking and come up with new ideas in new directions.

Let's consider using this technique in a story hour with your class.

discovering new resources

Today, I was directed to a website for English Teachers. Though it did not seem so appealing, I dropped by to check if I could benefit from it. And I'm glad I did :)

The English Teacher website was created by Leif Danielson, who is a retired English teacher. He says he aims to teach new English Teachers and continues adding resources for them.

Sometimes we get inspired by other ideas and develop new ones. You may need to glance over the page when you feel stuck preparing your lesson plan.

kids can create their own puzzles

It may be the best way to present the new vocab in a good context. However, we sometimes need to prepare a great variety of exercises to assure that students repeat and learn the new words as much as we desire. Preparing puzzles is one of the easiest way to give homework or handouts, and it is now possible to make them easily via additional teacher resources of the classbooks or many websites like Discovery Education's PuzzleMaker or Word Search Maker.

Have you ever asked your students to prepare their own puzzles? It will probably be interesting and meaningful for them to get into the work, and it will be more beneficial to help their spelling. If you'd like to try, here is an easy and good way of making a puzzle for kids.
