Discussion 1 - Welcome to CALL
Hi, everybody! How are you doing? Hopefully we are all completely fine.
In this occasion, I'd like to to tell you about one of the courses that I take this semester, that is “CALL".
Hmmm... Do you know what is it? Have you ever heard this term before? Or have you been familiarized with this abbreviation?
Well, CALL actually stands for Computer-Assisted Language Learning. It means this class has something to do with computer and internet technologies. Most of our activities would deal with computer, internet, and various interesting stuffs within. This is all intended for innovative language teaching and learning that can be useful for our future classrooms. Yup, I wish I can do much of learning, finding new ideas, discussing, exercising, and obtaining more knowledge about computer and internet technologies related to English language learning that I believe will be very useful for my future classrooms.
On the first meeting, we are introduced to NICENET.
Nicenet is an online classroom that serves a forum for teachers and students to collaborate. It is easy to access and simple to use as all its features are quite understandable.
From this moment on, Nicenet is a media for us to run the class and communicate either with the lecturer or among classmates. Therefore, we will conduct collaborative learning, share information, state ideas, discuss things, give some feedback, and so forth.
Consequently, it's gonna be much of hanging in front of the screen rather than meeting face to face as all tasks are submitted to this assistant media via online. Yup! this means we are able to do the activities wherever we are and whenever we have time without having to gather at one place. This will probably be time-consuming, yet interesting and challenging, isn't it?
Well, that's all for now, guys. If you are curious and want to know more about Nicenet, just visit nicenet.org.
Thanks for visiting and see you later!
